I ordered my first stuff to have a go at mixing today. For me, it's about getting the flavours I enjoy and trying some combinations I haven't seen anyone offering as yet. To start with, I've ordered (in addition to the VG and PG nic bases) chocolate, coffee, vanilla, apple, caramel, pie crust and 2 types of maple (one syrup, one 'natural') plus some ethyl malitol - I know I like sweet juices. I have a wish list as long as my arm, but will see how I get on with that little lot to begin with. I quite fancy the idea of maple apple pie, but wondering if something nutty - pecan or hazlenut, might be a good addition. Hmmm... wishlist just got longer!

I've just ordered some of that nicotine base, both PG and VG, and a pile of flavourings to have a play with ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) They'll be waiting for me at Dad's when I get there, and if you're very unlucky I may bring some of my first efforts along to the next LSE meet. You have been warned! Somewhere I have an ancient copy of the Seymour book, plus Food for Free, and a few others along those lines - when we first moved here I was all for self-sufficiency, but never really got as far into it as I would have liked. This morning I found that all my courgette pots had blown away in the gales, so am going to have to start again! We have a smoker for smoking fish that my husband is supposed to catch - IF he ever gets out there and tries, plus a load of sausage skins and a stuffing gun (oo!) for making home made sausages, if I ever get around to it. I used to bake my own bread, but since I started eating low carb last August, I don't eat bread, so have stopped making it. We're full of good intentions when it comes to home made stuff, but also expert procrastinators, unfortunately. Must do better! My general frugality took a bit of a hit today, 'cos I had to order a couple of new batteries and stuff for Carl (that's the husband's name, easier than continuing to type 'my/the husband' all the time!) since he's turned to vaping. Of course, I also had to order a Kanger Protank for me at the same time...just to try, you understand? Oh, and a few more juices to keep me going <eyes box full of juices and tries to pretend they're all running out>. Honestly, we ARE saving money, I'm sure we are - this is just initial investment, right?

The main reason I'm worried about the nic base is nothing to do with children (don't have any!) but all to do with the cat/dog conspiracy we have going on here, where one of the cats (Noel), who thinks he's a dog, knocks stuff of off/out of places we think are secure, and the dogs then eat whatever it is he's thrown to them. So far it's mostly been socks, shoes and the occasional pack of ciggies - but there was an unfortunate chocolate episode which made me panic (cos chocolate is doggie poison). I could never forgive myself if the dogs got hold of something poisonous that I'd brought into the house. Maybe I could take advantage of my current state of commuting between the UK and Ireland, and do all my mixing at my Dad's place, then bring the result back in the baggage ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/2973975/images/30yfTjP3QPippj7hX3wK.gif) Having said that, eating a bottle of 20mg juice wouldn't do them a lot of good either, so maybe I'm being unnecessarily cautious. Must buy more lock 'n lock boxes! Dolly - 48 mpg sounds great - I miss my old Vauxhall (sp?)Opel Astra estate, which used to get silly mpg, something way over 50, which was unreal ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) We're using the car less and less, and trying to make sure every journey counts - ie we don't go out in the morning for milk, and then remember all the other stuff we should have got, and have to go out again. It does make a difference over time, but it can be a right PITA too. Having been one of Maggie's yuppies in the 80s I sometimes feel like a bit of a failure to be so impecunious at this stage of life - but then again it has to be a good thing to live frugally, doesn't it?

Well, I don't know about anyone else, but one of the main reasons I started vaping, as opposed to smoking, was to try to save some money. We were faced with a bit of a mortgage crisis (as in we couldn't pay it!), and I worked out that my monthly smoking costs would cover the monthly mortgage outgoings, so it was a bit of a no brainer. Since my husband has now also stopped smoking and switched to vaping (the hero!), we're winning the battle, and can now also afford some shinies from time to time ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Anyway, I was thinking - we can't be the only people who ended up here because of a distinct excess of month compared to money, so wondered if anyone else is finding new and exciting ways of cutting back on expenditure in order to afford life's little essentials (like more juices!)? My other vice - the demon drink - I am dealing with by making home made wine and beer - currently quaffing a rather impertinent little elderflower wine that I threw together in the autumn. It certainly does the job, and tastes pretty good, too. I'm also a rather wishy-washy forager - nothing like Hugh Fearnley-wotsit, but I can recognise wild garlic when I see it, and am not averse to collecting mussels from the rocks. I found out the other day that Japanese knotweed, that invasive plant that seems to be everywhere, is edible - the young shoots can be used as a rhubarb substitute, apparently. Not tried that (yet) myself, but maybe a Japanese knotweed wine would work? I've planted some courgettes that may or may not supply us in the late summer, and have plans for other veggies soon. I'd love to get chickens again (fox got the last lot), but our dogs are too young for that to be a success, maybe in a year or so. Next bit of frugality on the horizon is to start mixing my own juices, but tbh am a bit scared of having high strength nicotine base in the house! So, we're doing what we can to cut back on expenditure - I even have an electric bike that I use for short journeys instead of the car (electric 'cos am as fit as a thing that isn't fit, working on that) - anyone else got any suggestions/examples/anecdotes to share? I'm no lentil-knitter, but possibly have old hippie tendencies...

I make my own - which can be surprisingly good. Just finishing off 23 litres of DOC's Merlot (from a kit) which worked out at about €3 a bottle, and is better than most medium price wines I can get in the shops. Also drinking a young rose petal wine I started off last September (so it has a while to reach maturity, but I couldn't wait). Very easy recipe taken from here - OK, so it's more pink than red, but is really very very nice ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Give it a go! Right now am on a bottle of Paul Masson California White - best the local Spar had to offer!

I found the psychological change more difficult to cope with (but in a good way) than any physical effect. I just couldn't get my head around the fact that I didn't crave a stinkie ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/2973975/images/30yfTjP3QPippj7hX3wK.gif) It almost felt like something was missing - that 'something' being the craving I was expecting to have, but didn't. I felt like I was getting away too easily, I suppose. I found myself giggling to myself a bit because it was as though I'd found a miracle cure that no one else knew about, and when my friends were saying 'well done you' for quitting the smokes, it was as though I didn't deserve their admiration, because I'd not had to struggle at all. I spent the first few days analysing the way I was feeling, kind of testing myself - but now I don't think about it much at all, and I feel as normal as I ever did (which isn't saying much, tbh!). I suppose in some ways vaping takes more conscious effort than smoking (which flavour shall I vape? Are all my batteries charged? What shall I buy next?) - there are more decisions to make, as opposed to just opening the next packet of cigs/baccy and using them. It seems to be more of a hobby than a habit, if you see what I mean. Hope you enjoy your continuing experience of vaping, I'm enjoying it so much more than I ever did smoking!

When I got my first kit I ended up phoning the seller, because I couldn't get it to work. No one told me I had to hold the button down whilst vaping! Felt like a right plonker, but haven't looked back since!

I'm currently enjoying some Oak Barrel Cider from Archangel Vapour - got their sample pack of Pipe Sauce flavours, and so far have enjoyed them all - they're kind of 'pub' flavoured, if you know what I mean. Husband adores their Longbottom Leaf. Takes a few days to ship from Malta to Ireland/the UK but had lots of contact from the vendor,l and find them very friendly!

I think I've come up with a plan - from now on I buy only pink, purple and girlie batteries and clearos - then I can pass on my existing black/steel etc. stuff to the husband, and know that he won't steal my 'feminine' kit(s) ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) I'm waiting until I get back to the UK to order anything from there, cos shipping is silly to Ireland, easier to get it sent to my Dad's and pick it up when I'm there. If we have any vendors coming to the next LSE meet who have pink etc. things for sale - I will most definitely be in the market ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/2973975/images/30yfTjP3QPippj7hX3wK.gif)

I have both, the MT3 is the same as the T3 only with an outer sleeve which has a viewing window (like Stu just said, really). They take the same heads, and they both leak a bit! I like the MT3s cos I have them in various colours, which helps remind me which juice is in which.

I discovered a gooseberry bush in our garden 2 years ago - I have no idea where it came from, 'cos I didn't plant it, and it wasn't there a few years back! My plan for this year is to make wine from the berries. Good luck with your bushes (why does that sound so wrong? lol).
Just in from planting my first seeds of the year - which are courgettes. I was intending to plant chillis, but discovered that I forgot to buy chilli seeds, which made it a bit difficult really. Must get some this week! If the weather holds up over the weekend I'm planning to get some radishes, lettuces , beans and cucumber started off - I love the hopeful feeling at this time of year which, sadly, is often followed by disappointment as things fail to germinate/get blown into the next county/dug up by cats etc. Lettuces are fairly foolproof though!

Only just seen that you're not well, Dolly - sorry to hear that and best wishes for a speedy recovery - you have to get better in time for the next meet! Seriously, hope they sort out the protein issues and the chest infection - keep us posted - hugs!

As you may remember, I stated vaping a few weeks ago, whilst living with my husband, who was determined to continue smoking, no matter what. So, I didn't get to experience the full joy of getting rid of the stinkies - still surrounded by ash, ashtrays, smoke and smells! I was determined not to turn into one of 'those' ex-smokers who bang on about it all the time, so kept my mouth shut and let him get on with it. Well, 2 nights ago, he announced that he was going to make the change to vaping himself ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) He had a taste of Pipe Sauce Longbottom Leaf (got a selection of samples from Archangel Vapours) and has declared that it's the juice for him. He's still smoking the odd stinky - has had 2 so far today, but isn't planning on buying any more. I am absolutely delighted ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/2973975/images/30yfTjP3QPippj7hX3wK.gif) The downside is that he's not got his own kit as yet, and I left half my batteries back in the UK, so we're currently sharing 2 x 900 eGo Twists and a mini eGo battery. I feel an order coming on ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/2973975/images/30yfTjP3QPippj7hX3wK.gif) I'd given it a year - thought he may have made the change by then - to have it happen within 6 weeks is nothing short of a miracle - and now he's got his friends interested too, it's only a matter of time before there's a nice little vaping community here in the west of Ireland. My next mission is to distribute 'Vaping Welcome Here' stickers around the local pubs, and see if I can get them to display them ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/2973975/images/30yfTjP3QPippj7hX3wK.gif) Anyway, just wanted to share my joy with you all!
