Thought I should update this, maybe it will help someone else
I took the advice of buying from Fasttech and ordered the Dvarw MTL V2 Styled RTA Rebuildable Tank Atomizer and shinyitis kicked in and i bought a Authentic Vapefly Galaxies RTA too. Unfortunately I chose the cheapest postage possible and it took 2 months to arrive
Whilst waiting I gave in and bought a Geek Zeus RBA from Amazon.
Then I went and bought the DOVPO BLOTTO RTA Rebuildable Tank.
I make my own ejuice with a 60/40 PG/VG base and only ever build single coils.
The
Geek Zeus was a simple enough tank to use, though the same juices that I used in the old Kanger Subtank + came out a bit muted. It has a top fill setup, but it also has a top level air valve too. I found the seals to be unreliable, especially at the base, I ended up relying on an old rubber band I got from a Smok tank years ago as an outer seal, but still leaking would be an issue. Worse for me was that I tend to sit in a recliner, lay back and kick my feet out, this doesnt tend to lend itself to top level air valves, as much of the ejuice just comes pouring out of it. I tried using a drip tip with a hinge, but it didnt help. Probably stuck with this for about a month, spending on a 810 to 510 adaptor, the hinge drip tip and a larger bubble glass, but in the end I got fed up with the leaking and went back to Amazon for the one I really liked but thought was too expensive, the DOVPO BLOTTO.
The
Dovpo. Even though it was bought from Amazon UK, the tank arrived with 3 tanks, one 2ml tank, plus two 6ml tanks. This thing is brilliant when it works, but again its so dam leaky its beyond believe. The base air valve doesnt fully close, so getting a Vaccum is impossible. This maybe a manufacturing problem unique to my tank only, but having tried to contact both the Amazon seller and Dovpo directly I am non the wiser as niether bothered to reply.
To try and compensate for the leaking I found people online suggesting making a bigger coil, so I switched from a 2.5 diameter to a 4.5 and increased the width of the coil by doing more wraps. Obviously this ramped up my ohms from a usual of between 08. to 1.2, to 1.6 to 1.8.
I have had the same Kanthal spool for three years, as it has no marking on it, I cant say what type of Kanthal it is, but from memory I think it was either 26 or 32.
When there was no leaking I really enjoyed the Blotto, especially the big tanks, I have a tendancy to chain vape for a few hours at night and this thing just kept on going. I was considering trying a different type of wire for my coil to get the ohms back down to the 0.8 to 1.2 range I liked, when the leaking just got the better of me. It seems that even if you are vaping away for a few days with no leaking, it can suddenly start again, regardless of the coil dimensions. When it leaks, it really leaks, Im not talking about seeping, Im talking about pouring straight out the air valve, all over my clothes and armchair, left upright overnight with no leaking I could still find in the morning it was "stuck" to the table in a puddle of ejuice, just so annoying.
Fortunately the Fastech gear arrived, just as I was getting ready to go back to actual cigarettes.
And what a delivery!
I havent even opened the Dvarw from it box, the
Vapefly Galaxy is fantastic! Its ridiculous that they advertise with their "unique" and "revolutionary" air valve system, then provide nothing but a photograph of each cube in the instructions and nothing else. But I forgive them, its kind of simple you just unscrew the coil and the cube sits in the base below, which is then unscrewed itself. Each screw as different holes on them and I found the cube not in the deck on arrival, was the best for my tastes. The base of the tank also has two airvalves, but instead of a sliding cover style, this tank has a solid base and the actual holes are tiny little cylinders with different airholes in them and their own wheels above each to adjust to taste, as you turn the wheel a roman numeral gives you a number for each hole, they are quite tight to turn, but I find I never really adjust these things anyway.
Sadly there only seems to be two tanks, niether of which feel big enough for me, one is 2ml and the other 4ml. Its top fill too and theres no need to close the air valves at base before filling.
So Ive been puffing away on this for 2 weeks and there has never been a single leak! Im gobsmacked, even my old Kanger woould weep a little each day, this wee thing is just amazing. Its so good I have even touched the other tanks.
I have also found that even if I open up the tank and the deck, cotton and inside cylinder is all black the juice in the outer tank hasnt even changed colour slightly.
I would only really recommend the Vapefly Galaxies now, I still hold out hope that someone from Dovpo gets back to me, just for the use of the bigger tank, but if the air valve is not meant to fully close I cant see myself going back to it. Ive noticed that the supplied coils with the Vapefly are much wider over the deck than my normal self made coils, yet have a smaller diameter than the 4.5 I was trying on the Dovpo but only come out a 0.8ohms, so Im thinking of trying one of the spare coils from Vapefly in the Dovpo when I get a chance, as I think covering more of the airholes can reduce leaking,
I think in time I will just get used to the Vapefly smaller tank but at the moment I still find Im filling up 4 or 5 times a day, when at home.
Apologies if this isnt of much use to anyone, or I have waffled too much!
Im not really that good as these things, but hopefully someone might find it usefull. The Vapefly was £16 from Fasttech, its not listed on Amazon UK though, thats another version with the same name.
