Chrissie, you may well be right. Maybe, just maybe, state of mind has something to do with it too. I'd decided this was going to be make or break, and am determined to get off the weed.
Chihuahua, (Hmmm, recognise that name from ebay) Yes, at first it was like puffing fresh air; now, it's more like puffing silk cut......
But, I decided that as I want to stop smoking, it really doesn't matter whether or not I enjoy it - so long as it keeps me off the cigs. And, so far, it does.... It's the draw, the deep inhalation, that I loved about smoking, and these ecigs give me that.

Scylla and Chrissie, I sincerely hope that I do pack up alltogether; but I promise that I will try not to leave here - this forum is part of what's keeping me tobacco free.

Thank you Chrissie, I don't really understand what's going on with this - I'd have thought that as a reasonably heavy smoker for 40-odd years, I'd be well and truly addicted to nicotine. But it would seem not to be so.... On Tuesday, I started using the ecig with a low cartridge because it was afternoon and I'd already had a few roll-ups so was scared of o.d'ing the nicotine (I'm married to a chemist, who has made me aware of the dangers of all drugs - he won't even take a paracetamol). That evening I changed to a zero cartridge for the remainder of the day. Next morning, Wednesday, I started with a low cartridge, which I changed to a zero cartridge at lunchtime, and I've stayed on the zero ever since then. So I'm quite puzzled really as to how easy it's been (so far) to give up the nicotine. I keep expecting to backslide and go back to the roll-ups...

I think Marjorie's post at #15 says it all, really.
Ban ecigs 'cos they're bad for you; carry on selling cigarettes 'cos we get lots of lovely tax revenue.
Want to stop smoking? Don't buy an ecig 'cos it's so bad that we've banned it; instead, use these nicotine patches, which are much better for you, and really won't work so you'll end up going back to those lovely revenue-earning cigarettes......

Hello junctionalfunkie, I, too, am on my third day now.... Haven't smoked since Tuesday lunchtime. And, I'm now using zero nicotine cartridges. Haven't used any nicotine at all since Wednesday afternoon. I feel fine - I'm going to start a diary listing my progress and any physical effects I notice. I've already noticed that I can walk much farther without pain or breathlessness. Hubby says I've stopped snoring, too......

Thanks to you both. Chrissie, everyone has been so helpful, I felt it is the least I can do; but I will also admit that posting updates is kind of helping me stay tobacco free too....

Another quick update. I've now gone more than 48 hours without a cigarette. The longest I have ever managed...... I can't say it's been easy, but it's certainly been a great deal easier than ever before..... And it obviously hasn't been that hard, because I've not had so much as a puff of a tobacco cigarette. Even though I've left my tin of baccy in full view, ready to pounce on when the expected cravings begin. I expected my worst times to be first thing in the morning, and at night when watching t.v. The mornings have been eased considerably with use of the ecig, and the nights too, with a tiny bit of help from Thorntons Special Toffee........ I hope I'm not sounding smug or complacent, as I'm neither. Just so grateful for something that has enabled me to go over 48 hours without a cigarette - for the first time in over 40 years. A huge thank you to everyone for this forum, without which I'd never have tried the ecig. And here's hoping that I can keep it up.

Quick update. Having read Chrissie's post re. charging for 8 hours, I thought I'd give it a go as soon as the light went green. Aroundabout the same time, I remembered that I'd ordered a passthrough.......... So, at the time of typing this, it's almost 24 hours since I smoked tobacco. The ecig is quite mild compared to a tobacco smoke, but it's (so far) substituted well and kept me off the weed. Early days yet, I know, but fingers crossed........

Thank you Chrissie. My kit has arrived this morning and the battery is on charge. It should be ready to use around 8.30 tonight.... Just as well, as I'll be on my own tonight so won't feel a fool while trying it out for the first time.... I will own up to changing from a Titanium to the cadmium red though - one feels that the colour is more in keeping with one being a lady.......

"Just around the corner". You are nearer to the truth than you know. I grew up in SE London and am now in North London....

Oh yes, trouble indeed. I most certainly am a lady, as I've spent many years reminding my husband.... Or should I say "one's husband"?

To all of you - thanks so much for your advice and encouragement. Keef - I will heed your words and chill a little. Yes, you're right - it's not the end of the world if I can't quit altogether and immediately.....
Foxy - thanks too for your words which are very true of myself. I will carefully check the prices of the no-nic cartridges too as I hope to be able to use them eventually.
Now I just need my order to arrive and I'll go from there. I'll report back here on progress - even if it's slow, or backwards steps now and again....

Scylla, It works for me because of just that - I'm not a drinker at all. So I think the alcohol hits the spot quickly. If it weren't for that odd glass of sherry, I'd be a teetotaller.

Thanks Foxy for the tip - I've made my order with OkSmokey and will let you all know how I get on..... It'll be a miracle if I do manage to give up the cigs. after so many years of smoking though.
