Differing types of plastic, often used inappropriately in ad-hoc designs by companies in a rush to get something on the market, being subjected to various mixes of PG, VG, flavourings, etc. Some poor choices of plastic reacting badly with the contents. I don't see it as been hazardous, just bloody careless.

I've been splitting some old Thinkpad batteries apart for their 18650 cells for use in flash/bicycle lights. The better makes of OEM batteries use Sony, Sanyo, Panasonic cells and so far the 15 batteries have only had four dud cells come out of them, the rest testing ok after a period. Basic care and feeding of 18650s 1. If you find any that have dropped below 2.8V - bin 'em - they will become dangerous. 2. Use a decent charger, at the very least, something that will stop charging when it reaches a max of 4.2V, else the overcharged cells will become dangerous. 3. Any cells that exceed 33degC during charging, bin'em, they will become dangerous. It's easy to determine this - during the first half of the charging sequence, the cells get warm if they're ok or hot-ish if they're a bit dodgy. A cheapy IR thermometer is recommended (ebay for a fiver). 4. After a fortnight, re-test the cells for retained voltage. Any that have lost half a volt, bin'em, they're on their way out and not worth the effort. Some will lose 0.03V (mark them), most will lose 0.02V, some as little as 0.01V. 5. After a month, retest them again, same conditions applies as above. Lithium cells in good order keep their voltage really well, and the loss of charge is a good indicator of how good they are - voltage losers are duds. Most of my cells are Sony 2010/2011 and probably have a year or two of life left, but I don't expect them to last forever. Still, at the price I paid (£15 inc p&p), I wouldn't have been too shocked if half of them had been duds. It's turned out that only about 15% were duds - so far. That's four dead ones out of 60 Btw, LTs and the like have a protection circuit built in, these cells don't, so exercise caution if you ever use them in appliances with no voltage indication and never discharge a cell below 3.4V in normal use.

Ordered a T2, thinking it would fit my LT - it doesn't, it only fits my ego batteries. No matter, filled it up and let it soak and by heck it's a nice blast from it. Just for a change I filled it with Dekang Blended Tobacco mix with nothing else added and it's performing nicely. Well, that can go in my 'ite and abite' kit for the road and a bit of an improvment on the cartos and previous clearo which cracked up.

That's the Smoking Nazis for you - they perceive it as a loophole and will do anything to stamp on anyone's fun.

No farting in the bog when she's in cleaning her teeth. Never say, in a proposal to give you a make-over, "Over my dead body, sister."

Had a smoking friend visit for a couple of days. While sitting in their company I didn't mind them smoking at all, as I was vaping away quite happily and even though I got the odd whiff of fag I felt no urge at all to participate. Now they've gone, the room where the smoking, gassing and drinking took place smells like an old pub. Blerugh.

dont bother with the DCTs, a Vivi Nova would do the trick, just unscrew top pop your juice in then happy vaping days and when it needs a new head then simply swap out... what more can you ask for. +1 and neither of my Vivi Novas have cracked, unlike my Clearo CE2 or my dual-coil job, despite having every type of liquid in them. Just ordered some heads for them and at the rate I use them up, I think it's starting to make sense to look at re-building them now.

Ten months, four weeks (eh, that's 11 months in my book). 16704 cigarettes not smoked, saving €1,670.50. Life saved: 8 weeks, 2 days, 0 minutes. Nearly 17,000 fags

He's the best Bond for a long long time. I agree, and much more like the thug in a DJ that Fleming wrote about. Ruthless, nasty and just... Bond.

Phones can survive if you're a bit lucky. Strip the battery out and dunk it in lukewarm distilled or de-ionised water to get the soluble residue of the washing powder/liquid out, do that a few times then leave it to dry slowly in an airing cupboard. A couple of days later it might work. I've known a few people who've had a bit of luck with this, usually beer of pee.

That's torcy - good supplier and dead sound. His page on bicycle lighting is an eye-opener.

After cheaping out on chargers and buying another Ultrafire 2 to replace the one that went a bit whiney, I splashed out on an Xtar WP6 II and it's lovely. No shortage of charging bays now and it's safe to leave on past the full charge state, although I still don't trust any charger left unattended, so always unload it asap.

Two GS850s - one still in courier rat trim, the other one a bit tidier, having done its stint and been the second-string bike then, was cleaned up and painted a bit. The other one of the set is an XS650SE Yamaha, which is still in fairly tidy nick, but showing signs of being 30+ years old, still runs fine, but has the usualy XS rust on the rear guard and the PO painted it a gay purple colour. That will be going black asap, and possibly losing the high bars to make more of a straitforward street bike.
