I haven't come upon anything today except extreme slowness on the boards It's inexcusable that eBay have no staff monitoring the boards at weekends >

According to a post on the eBay tech board thread from an un pinked pink, it's coming from "compromised syndicated advertisements". Scylla, I guess like me you have an ad-block? If so that is most likely why we & many others haven't been infected?

Hello,
We wanted to let you all know that we believe this to be caused by compromised syndicated advertisements. We're working with the advertisers to correct this problem as quickly as possible.

I use Web Of Trust, with Firefox. WOT gives me a status symbol of each page/website that I visit, green for safe, yellow for questionable and red for potentially dangerous. If the site is potentially dangerous, a WOT page will come up and warn me of the site and give me the option to proceed or to leave. All About is green, so I guess it's safe to post here.

as a computer builder/repairer of 20 odd years ive always put norton internet security on all my new builds as its a fantastic bit of software these days, years ago it used to slow your pc down but these days its light on resources. i wouldnt recomend AVG to anybody for its false positives and false sense of security its crap. you can pick norton up pretty cheap £15 to £20 or buy a serial off ebay, its well worth it.

Not been on Ebay lately but would recommend anyone using AVG to replace it, as its not very good. If you want free I'd suggest Comodo IS (best free suite) Avast or Avira free. 3 free options much better than AVG. Theres plenty more but these are best free ones imo.

(((Ian))) I don't know why that's happening Camper, you have got to be the first person I've seen in years to recommend Norton Looks like AVG wasn't throwing up false positives & the viruses/trojans/malware, where coming from syndicated advertisements & not just via using eBay, the London Stock Exchange's site & Autotrader's where also affected : - www.theregister.co.uk/2011/02/28/tainted_ads_blight_uk_sites/Fruits, I agree, AVG used to be good but I now use Avast.

I use McAfee and have had very good luck with it. I also use F-Secure Blacklight to check for any problems in the Rootkit and as I mentioned before Web Of Trust.
Norton did have a bad reputation for a while, so I never tried it.
