Another thought lolli - are you vaping tobacco flavours? I've just started a new tobacco flavour (Silver Vanacco) and it reminds me of smoking - it doesn't quite taste like a cigarette, but the taste left in my mouth reminds me of smoking more than the other flavours. So, I am wondering if you are vaping juice that tastes even a bit like tobacco, perhaps that is what is making you want a real cig? If you go to a flavour that is completely removed from tobacco taste then you may lose the association, vaping will not remind you of smoking and your desire for a real cig could be lessened.I've just realised that is the complete opposite view to that of Ragjoy's! ive never thought of it that way jaki, but you have a more than valid point there. it works for me the way ive said, but you dont lose the association with tobacco my way i suppose, but then i dont want to, ecigs are my fags. i went from analogs too rollies and now ecigs. i just try to see ecigs as a new way of smoking (and i can use it indoors). im still tempted to smoke rollies on my holiday, t keeps plugging away at me, i know i can say NO, no problem, its sort of that last hurdle of things that i have not done since quitting. raggy.........

As most of you know, I stopped smoking from the first time I vaped and haven't touched tobacco since (almost seven months now). At first I found I was sucking away on my ecig as though it were a dummy but I realized it was because I wasn't using strong enough liquid; I upped the strength to 36mg and that was ok for a while but I soon dropped to 24 then 18mg. I now use mostly 24mg (I'm not trying to cut down at all). I also use a Tornado (or Riva) and find that the vapour and throat hit are very satisfying, especially with OKSmokey's Drum and Old Holborn juices.
I can't think why a smoker would want to continue to smoke as well as to vape, perhaps the addiction is to something other than nicotine.
An interesting post but I don't have the answers I'm afraid.

Lolli, My tale is like yours,... i bought my first e-cig in Feb 09 and immediatly i went down from 35 real cigs a day to just 5 a day, i was happy with that and i also felt the benefits ie i could breath better i was just glad i was smoking less, i started out with a 901 and found it worked for me when i had sorted out my fav suppliers, i used 36mg from the word go Menthol flavour as that is what i smoke, then last August my mum died unexpectedly and i found myself smoking more real fags in the days and weeks that followed and i am now smoking about 25 cigs a day and just using my titan's and tornados for where i cant smoke, which seems silly as i am now keeping two habits going i just wish i could get back down to the 5 a day i would be happy as larry but it just isnt happening yet, i know i will have to get in the right frame of mind and start vaping more. When I first got my e-cigs I was chain smoking and I didn't find it easy to stop immediately, but on the 6th day (I think) I got rid of ALL my tobacco. There's nothing wrong with smoking and vaping at the same time if that's what you want, but I needed to stop smoking tobacco and had to be hard on myself to achieve it. I find that getting a split personality and bossing myself around helps... sometimes scylla

Oh ((((((((((guys)))))))))) - what kind, thoughtful replies - THANK YOU ALL SOOOOO MUCH. I felt such a looser :-[ starting this thread. Relieved to hear you think this might help others Jaki. Obviously a lot of folk try vaping, don't take to it etc, so, of course we don't get to hear their views & 'what went wrong' 'cause they don't register (mostly) & tell us. My background to all this is that I've been 'at the e cig', with a will, & no mean degree of enthusiasm since JANUARY !! I have many many small juices, as I wanted to try loads when I first started. The only ones I like & that 'do anything' for me are the tobacco flavours (apart from cigar - yuk!) But that's cool 'cause I like several of the tobacco ones. I have every strength from 14mg (my lowest) to 36mg (which makes me cough violently on every 'draw') I have PG & VG in different strengths & find both ok. I use the 901 & the 510, both of which I like. My fave is the 901 passthrough as it avoids messing about! I never really liked my SD. I have smoked daily 50++++ silkcut for y e a r s (started on No6 when I was 12!!) Never rolled a roll up. Won a very long battle with illness in my teens (ashtray next to my hospital bed in those days except when the oxygen was around), had lots of ops (smoked outside). Had last big surgery in Dec 09 (always self discharge these days, as I crave a proper smoke so badly) Lead a very stressful life (like a lot of people). Just had some more pretty bad news (re health). I wanted, as Raggie said, e cigs to be my new ciggies - passionately (-an alternative way of smoking). LOVE my ciggies (FAR too much) - hate my addiction. I'm very strong willed & disciplined in so many other areas of life, yet fail in this. I don't understand why the compulsion is so exaggerated. Maybe, as Foxy says, there's something else in cigarettes I'm addicted to. After all, there are enough substances to choose from! Maybe the rollie idea would work, instead of silkcuts. Will NOT just give up on vaping - I make myself replace some cigs with it every day. Lovely when I meet Lynda, as I smoke & vape & she's so non judgmental of my duality. It renews my resolve every time - till the following day! Thanks for your replies & patience. I know people who think, for goodness sake, just throw the blasted things away & stop smoking! I wish I could - I so want this to work when everything else has failed. 6 months part vaping & struggling lolli

Lolli, please don't beat yourself up over it. You are smoking less than you were and that is a bonus in itself. Would you really have just cut down the number of cigs if you weren't vaping?
You have made some really positive steps, not least posting about your struggles!
Almost all my juices are 36mg, and if they are less, I just chain vape to make up for it. And there are days that i would love a cig, but I know I don't enjoy the taste of them any more (still love the smell of a freshly opened packet or freshly lit cig though).
Perhaps you just need to keep going with the small steps you are taking - you are already replacing some cigs each day - try to replace a few more, but just take it one at a time - consider it a cigarette diet!
I wish there was something more I could do to help you. I have a huge range of juice flavours and I am more than happy to send you some to try, or a LR atty to go on your SD - it does make a difference.
Don't give up giving up, and don't forget we are always here if you need us

I didn't get on terribly well with my SD at first, but now it's an extension of my hand... when it's not just hanging around my neck It would be wonderful if you, Lolli, could find hardware and juice to please you. If you've got 14mg juice that's too weak you could mix it with that rough 36mg. Or when you're getting near to ordering more juice, order some 0mg of the same flavour as the 36mg and mix them together. Or add some Vegetable Glycerine to the 36mg, though that will mildify the flavour - Ok if you don't like it anyway I've got a tight trachea myself lately, thinking of trying to find that "lung juice" that someone somewhere supplies (in the US, I expect). scylla

Re read all these posts several times. Your help much appreciated EVERYONE. Was the weight gain thing your wife's main reason for not continuing, Raggie?? Think there may well be a lot of sense in what Nana & Raggie say about rollies being an easier 'transition' from ciggies to e cigs? Also Jules could've hit on something, with her notion of reverting to tobacco being stress related. Will try some of the 'mixing juices/strengths' suggestions given here - not done that yet. Unsure about the LR atties, Jaki. Didn't I read something about problems with them? Maybe not? Several of you know folk who didn't get on with vaping? -- wonder what didn't 'work' for them? Considering the Riva too, not sure if that's a red herring tho, as I like the 901 & 510. I'm not prepared to waste 6 months of trying to make this happen! It must work!! I'm going to try to teach myself how to do rollies as my next step!

The Riva is just basically, a 510 with a much better battery, Lolli I received my 3 Riva batteries this morning, to use on my Tornado, it seems fine, altho i prefer the feel of the Tornado battery button, but that's insignificant really, lol I was worried for you last night sweetie, you seemed so down

Lolli, Back when I changed over to rollies, (having done the sums, and needing to find an extra £40 per month which is what I was spending on ready-made cigarettes) I'd already tried to quit smoking and was climbing the walls. So, one morning after taking the children to school, I went to the shop and bought a packet of tobacco and a packet of Rizla and came home and rolled my first ever rollie. Believe me, when desperate for a smoke, I darned well made sure I learned real fast..... That first roll-up was bliss and I never went back to ready-mades; although, of course, I remained a smoker for the next 26 years.... > But I've never forgotten how I felt at that time and what heaven it was to smoke a roll-up rather than not smoking anything at all. And it's been exactly the same now when giving up smoking and using the ecig instead.....

My sister was kinda a hippy and always smoked rollups, but I, 7 years older, grew up on Weights, Woodbines, Senior Service and Players Navy Cut. Even Capstan Full Strength when I felt flush Then on to filter-tipped, they took a while to get used to, B&H mainly, a short spell on Marlboro. I cannot for the life of me remember what suddenly made Golden Virginia good when I'd never been able to tolerate it, but for the last 10-15 years of smoking that's what I loved and stuck with. I would have thought that the reason that rollie-smokers take to vaping quite well is because they're accustomed to faffing, it's in their blood. I'm not sure I see the point of someone taking it up to try to make themselves more satisfied with vaping ??? Unless they totally ditch ready-mades and then may find that e-cigs are easier and quicker than rollies ??? Terrible ramble that scylla

So sorry - never intended to encourage more smoking
