Backtrack about 5 years, Harry Potter and the something of somethingelse had just come out in book form. After a bit of googlage, I found and logged onto a forum frequented by Potterites, and posted in reply to a thread full of them and typed 'Oh, that's the one where Snape kills Bumblebum'. Cue nerd rage.

Don`t let this occurrence colour your view of how things work using Paypal. Here on AAE-C the system works nicely with only a rare occasion of things not working out.
99.99% of the deals go through without skipping a beat. We are probably the most honest group of people you will ever come across both here and UKV but on the rare occasion that a less than honest sale happens, you will always have the backing here of both Chissie and her great team of moderators along with the support of fellow members.

I'm very sorry that someone has lost out in a big way, never good on any forum. It has thankfully happened rarely on here, after each time, it has been discussed, the last being a poll.... allaboute-cigarettes.proboards.com/thread/44923

Sometimes/quite often, rules aren't even read & of course, to put down any rule on something like this, anyone by pm, can arrange what they like. The main thing is to use common sense.

I don't use the classies (yet... looking at you, 14 mods and growing) but is there a mod post in place with 'Good trading practice' or some such advising buyers and sellers what to do?

A simple check on the person your buying from would have set off alarm bells for me, if your spending that kind of money.

If it's someone I know,or seen about the forum no problem, if I never heard of them, nay chance I would pay ff.

Looking at the thread the OP wasn't a total newbie. He had 300+ posts and on the forum for over a year. Which makes it quite odd. I would have thought anyone bent on ripping people off would come on the forum, rip and move on. But it takes all sorts I suppose. But he could have done the decent thing.

We do advise as strongly as we can . . . .

7. Buyers, please be aware that if you pay via Paypal gift, you have no buyer protection at all. If the seller doesn’t send the item, Paypal will not reimburse you if you have paid via the F&F option.

Above all, please use some common sense. If something is too good to be true, or there is anything you are unsure about - walk away.

And we, along with Members do endeavour to monitor the Board as closely as possible - there is only so much however that is realistically possible to do and much relies upon the individuals in any deals.

Maybe the seller wasn't a rip-off merchant just an a-hole who cheaped out on delivery and thinks he shouldn't be the one to eat the cost of a lost package?
Either way he's wrong and i feel for the buyer.

I don't think you can realistically make it a rule to not use F+F payment on PP, people will just do it on the sly anyway.
