I like your enthusiasm mp2012. I agree with you 100%. Finding the right product that works and is cost effective and a sensible use of battery technology is the key!
Disposables are a waste of space due to the waste of a perfectly good battery that could be re-charged.
The best ones I have come across so far for the price and effectiveness are the SDKs sold by cavecom (Trog) - but they don't look like a fag and will not appeal to most smokers without a big advertising campaign (a la elites).
The social smokers that the same site sell cost about £7 for a rechargeable look-a-like - again at present, nowt touches them for a smoker who wants to have a try at ecigs.
Russell
(PS - I'm not Trog - but I believe his stuff works for the average smoker wishing to give ecigs a go with a price point that they can cope with)

I believe that these people were elected onto the committee by the AGM attendees at Vapefest 2011;
Chair: Sam Munro Vice Chair: Dave Hook (Westcoast2 - no longer active) Secretary: Chris Price (Rolygate) Treasurer: Tim Boniface (tim21080 - no longer in the post)
Forum Reps; AAE-C: Jemima ECR: Fiona UKV1: AcousticVillage ECF: Wasn't filled at the time, various people have come and gone.
I hope this helps.

I always use my ecig in the pubs I visit. If it is a quiet pub, I ask and if allowed (all have said yes btw), I openly do it to court attention from the smokers in there. If it is a busy pub, I do not ask but I stealth vape and nobody knows I'm doing it. The map ( www.communitywalk.com/map/index/637607 ) has over 520 pubs where vapers have asked if it is ok to use their ecig and the landlord/bar person has said yes. We know that there are thousands more out there that will allow ecigs, let's find them and add them to the map for all to see If you know of one, please send me the name and postcode and I will get it added to the map. Cheers! Russell

Where else can the funding come from then?
The Consumer Association has a robust constitution that will be acted upon by the elected officials. That is what makes it a Consumer Association - where the funding comes from is irrelevant. Even if it is funded by vendors, it is not a trade association as it is acting in the interests of consumers.
Over a year's worth of asking for donations from consumers netted ECCA the grand total of £67 - you cannot even get 5000 leaflets printed with that sort of backing, never mind pay for other projects of importance to the consumer.

The reason I believe that the current vendors should get behind a fledgling Consumer Association are partly answered in your post rab9.
Within 12 months, it is very possible that the status quo will be turned on its head - even without interference from Governments.
The potential market for these products is huge and the interest of big business will have been piqued. These businesses may not have the same integrity as the majority of online vendors we currently know and trust.
So far, the industry has been self regulating because it is run by a bunch of enthusiasts - not businessmen.
The standards that ECITA set for its member, the standards that Jason at VapeEscape, Daz at SaferCigs, TW, CNCreative etc etc have set have helped to ensure that we as consumers are already protected from bad practice. The current vendors will benefit from a strong Consumer Association that upholds their values.
At present, we are all sort of singing off the same hymn sheet - we might be on different verses - but we are indirectly working together. This is likely to change when big business gets involved.
The 'pioneers' of electronic cigarettes in the UK (ie the current vendors) could be swamped or bought out by big business within months - and where would that leave us?

The small achievable goals should be set by the committee and broadcast to the wider community via the forums and elsewhere for people to volunteer their time like you have suggested Gordy. Unfortunately, there doesn't even seem to be any committee meetings anymore Perhaps Sam or Rolygate will read this and let us know

I personally think that the people making money from the ecig world (ie the vendors) should fund ECCA.
As the constitution is robust - there will be NO conflict of interest, just the small community (as it is now) working towards a common goal.

Cheers everyone and Gordy, I will try to clarify things. My main concern is ECCA. I believe that we need to properly establish a Consumer Association that is 'real' in the sense that it has funding and a voice in the wider electronic cigarette using public. I was part of the 'steering committee' and we laid down a solid constitution. Unfortunately, there has been no financial backing and ECCA has just become a blog on a website. The AGM was poorly attended when it was officially launched at last year's Vapefest and was cancelled this year. ECCA is 'inactive' because it has no support from the online vaping community apart from a handful of people who used to attend the regular meetings, and has no way of gaining the financial backing to achieve its aims. Sam Munro and Rolygate dare not even post about ECCA on the forums anymore because they get shot down in flames for not doing anything This is a very young industry and the people who take on roles such as committee members of ECCA, do it voluntarily BUT for it to be recognised 'on the street' as a body to represent the users of electronic cigarettes, it needs funding. Unfortunately, there is no benevolent vaping millionaire willing to do that at the moment and no Government or EU grants!, so where should the money come from? Where does the MONEY come from to support the other initiatives? In the case of CAM-VIP, it mainly comes from my pocket. VTTV? - the VTTV crew's pocket. RY4Radio - Tony's pocket. UKVapefest is now too big for an individual/small group to fund. We can live without all of them except ECCA. We NEED a Consumer Association - how can we fund it? Cheers! Russell

Ay Up Everyone,
Anyone who knows me, either via the forums or in real life, know that I am passionate about ecigs and building a community that supports its members. I also believe that 'spreading the word' about ecigs into the wider community to smokers and other interested parties is vital.
In 2010/11, forum members, vendors and other ecig activists all worked together and a number of 'initiatives' were established to achieve those aims. These included amongst others;
CAM-VIP UK Vapefest ECCA ECITA VTTV RY4Radio
Apart from ECITA which is a business, the others depend upon support from the community to grow and become established as the worthwhile methods of getting ecigs accepted by the general public and the 'powers that be'. This support is NOT forthcoming.
Is there a reason force this? Why are those initiatives failing to bring the ecig community together?
I'd be more than interested to hear people's thoughts on this.

AAE-C is a gem in the ecig world.
Go4Smoke is just a vendor,
Where do my loyalties lie?

All e-liquids are a product of tobacco if they contain nicotine (as atm it is extracted from tobacco). The Health Act of 2006 does go on about tobacco a lot, but the main distinction is 'LIT' - you can still use snuff/pigtail etc in public places as it is not 'LIT' tobacco. After all anything that is lit will burn and produce smoke - this includes BBQs. Do they fall under the 'smoking ban'? It all comes back to the same thing - misinformation and political manipulation. It is nowt to do about science or health, it is about control Russell PS I seem to be turning into Trog

Thinking about it, perhaps ECCA could take up the mantle this year? Then it would be a cross-forum celebration and vote

When UKV was first set up, I thought that having this type of an event could be an annual recognition of the achievements in vapeland and that the event would grow year by year until it became a significant one. It is a bit of fun but with a deeper significance in the way that it is yet another 'established' event that should increase the acceptance of ecigs and vaping in the wider community. I think Chrissie was referring to possible problems with the other forums, not between vendors - I do not see it as being a problem as the format could be used anywhere and UKV.com does not exist anymore. There were quite a few categories last year and here were the winners/runners up; Vaper of 2011 Winner : igetcha69 Runner up : rawveg Campaigner of 2011 Winner : Rusty (CAM-VIP) Runner up : VTTV Promotor of 2011 Winner : Wayne (VapeFest) Runner up : Rusty (CAM-VIP) Reviewer of 2011 Winner : igetcha69 Runner up : Romastino Vendor of 2011 Winner : Safecigs Runner up : VapeEscape Forum Contributor 2011 Winner : Digicig Runner up : prof beard New Vaper of 2011 Winner : rawveg Runner up : easystreet Modder of 2011 Winner : Garry Dibley Runner up : Clockworks Outstanding Achievement of 2011 Winner : Wayne for VapeFest 2011 Runner up : Stopping Smoking Best Product of 2011 Winner : Lavatube Runner up : Tanks Best 'Mod' of 2011 Winner : Provari Runner up : Throathit's VV Dual 18650 Best Atomiser/Cartomiser of 2011 Winner : BOGE 510s Runner up : Dual Coil Cartomisers Turkey of 2011 Winner : CE3 Smokymiser Runner up : Buds Best Eliquid Range of 2011 Winner : Dekang Runner up : Grizwald's Gourmet Vapours New Product of 2011 Winner : Lavatube Runner up : Provari

I was the instigator of the 'UKV Awards' Brian. They started not long after it was set up in 2009 and ran for 3 years. The categories were decided and then nominations were given and finally a vote. I thought it worked really well as a tool to help the vaping community and encourage participation. With the demise of UKV.com, I see no reason why a similar idea couldn't be carried forward on AAE-C Chrissie I certainly do not mind and I'm almost certain that Jackie wouldn't either. Russell

Having just read the WIKI on Pantheism, I think that just about sums up my beliefs - it is good to find that there is a name for them Panentheism has a built in hierarchy as richdude points out with GOD being more than the whole. GOD exists outside the Universe as well as in it. This is more closely allied with 'religions' than pantheism I believe that all can be discovered from what is already here (in the Universe) without the need for an external GOD. The interactions we have talked about can change how people think and the inspiration for a new thought/theory/discovery/invention/song/painting etc etc comes from within directly as a result of those interactions. Great topic Kuro
