I've been impressed by some menthol juices. Really like them.
Trouble is that I used to be a daily cigar smoker, which sets the bar high when it comes to tobacco flavours. The low point came when I bought a pre-mixed one described as a Cigar flavour and guess what... same old cheap tobacco flavour! Maybe I'll have to spend a bit more next time!

May I paste here a report that I have received this afternoon from our local MEP? It is quite interesting, and from the closing sentences it seems that nothing has yet been finalised.
Cheers - Jono.
From: NEWTON DUNN Bill <bill.newtondunn@europarl.europa.eu> To: Sent: Thursday, 23 May 2013, 13:33 Subject: report to Nottinghamshire from Bill Newton Dunn MEP
Another report from the European Parliament, where many topics are bubbling. What are Electronic Cigarettes ? The original Commission proposal was to regulate anything with a substantial nicotine content (enough to actually have an effect) as "medicinal products", for which getting approval would be costly and slow. The proposal allows e-cigs (or 'nicotine containing products') which contain nicotine under a low threshold to be sold as consumer products. People in favour of medicinal regulation argue that we don't know what are the long term effects of inhaling nicotine vapours, and that they could potentially be dangerous. Those on the other side say that, yes they should be regulated in some way to ensure that they are safe as general products, but that they are many times less dangerous than tobacco, do not cause cancer, and are not meant to act as medicines, and should not be regulated as such. The parliament's Environment committee has not yet taken a final position. Liberal MEPs say that if the e-cig manufacturers make a health claim and say the electronic cigarettes can get you to quit smoking, then they have to regulated as medicines. If not, they are only obliged to comply with existing EU consumer legislation, and include warnings that health may be damaged, and implement age restrictions. The Commission would be obliged to do an in-depth study on the long term effects of these products and, if necessary, propose separate legislation in future. The debate in the committee continues.

Hey Pezz
No need to spend much. Just one of the cheap yellow ones from Wilko's will do it.
As with any cheap meter, before taking a low-resistance measurement you should touch the test leads together and look at the LCD. It will show a few ohms, maybe something between 0.5 and 2.0. This is the resistance of the measuring leads themselves. Now measure the coil. You should see something like 3 ohms. Subtract the amount you saw when you checked out the leads to find the actual coil resistance. So... if you short the leads and see 1.0 ohms, then measure the coil and see 3.2 ohms, then the coil resistance is 2.2 ohms. Which would probably be a good one!

Hey Rich64
I've tried a few different "tobacco" flavours and they are, without exception, rubbish. Taste at best like the inside of an old cig packet. I have concluded that vaping is not smoking and that it is futile to hope otherwise. That was disappointing, but having tried various fruit and food-type flavours and enjoyed most of them, it is starting to look like vaping really does have a lot to offer. I just don't expect it to be like smoking tobacco any more!

Well, it was an acceptable cola flavour, and with some cherry and a little (neutral) sweetener it might be quite good. I have some pre-mixed cherry eJuice (a chinese one from eXhale) which is not too bad. I might try adding a little cola to that as an experiment if I get a minute. That would be an interesting little experiment.

Yesterday, I tried sweetening my cola mix with a few drops of RY4. Cola + Caramel: Yuck!
Edit: I just read the labels on your bottles. See no evil, hear no evil... taste no evil?

Does anyone have any recommendations on who makes the best (tastiest / most authentic) cola or cherry cola or dr pepper concentrate?
I just had a browse through the reviews board but couldn't find anything relevant. I'm looking for something that has a genuine "coke" or "pepsi" or "dr pepper" style taste. I'm wary about buying a flavour and then finding it tastes like - to borrow a phrase from Peter Kay - "cr*p pop". XD Hey up!
Yesterday I tried my LT eCigs Cola concentrate for the first time. It's in an alcohol base, and they suggest a starting point of 1%. Well, that is not very much concentrate when you just want to mix up 1.5 ml of juice to try it! I decided to try 2%, which was 0.03ml. I have a very narrow syringe which just about allows me to measure that sort of quantity. I should mention that the concentrate was in a hopelessly unreliable dropper bottle, and you could not possibly meter out small quantities by dripping it.
So... what is it like? Well, with just 0.03ml cola + 1ml VG + 0.5ml PG 38mg nic, it tasted like strongly-flavoured cola sweets. You know the sort, those rubbery little cola bottles. It was ok, in fact I quite liked it, but it was not really authentic. And I expect that answers your question!
As a postscript, I should mention that I thought the cola flavour might improve with a little sweetening. Having no sweetener concentrate to hand, I added a few drops of RY4. Yuck. Cola + caramel... disgusting.
I'll try the cola again when I have some neutral sweetener.
Cheers - Jono

...I used to smoke small cigars as well and spent months (and a fortune!) trying every "cigar" flavoured juice I could lay my hands on - none of them tasted remotely like cigars and the worst ones tasted to me like a mixture of nuts and Oxo Dave - Thanks for the welcome. Your observations confirm my suspiscions... to get cigar taste you have to smoke a cigar!
Well, if it was just an occasional treat I suppose it might be ok. It's a shame though, as that rather goes against one of the main benefits of vaping - the elimination of tobacco products. Here in the UK, the number of ciggy/rollie smokers vastly outnumbers cigar smokers. Cigar smokers have very little choice at most tobacconists, and as you will surely know, we have not been well catered for. Likewise when it comes to eJuice. What to do? Don't know really. When my mixing stuff arrives from LT I might try mixing RY4 with a little Licorice. It might be nice. Or it might taste like a licorice-flavoured fag packet. We shall see!
I know. I could try steeping a part-smoked cigar in a little VG base or something. Now that's a thought...

I go through phases of liking the smell of petrol every once in a while... Hey DiscoDes, how about a Petrol Bomb to go with the melon? Petrol Bomb flavour! Love it!(No offence intended. It's just a joke about the smell of petrol.)

I have some licorice flavour that I got from LT Ecigs and it's definately got that "tarry" edge to it, especially without any sweetner. On a side not my GF loves the smell of Tar (and freshly printed magazines) oh well, she must be weird, she's with me! Ha ha ha! Yes, the smell of freshly printed magazines is rather nice. I like it too.
Another thing I always do, and this seems just slightly perverse, is.... When I get a new gadget (which sadly is getting rare these days), I open the box for the first time and smell it. Yes, I really do. I love that "new" smell. It might be an electronic board sort of smell, or oily, or papery. It's that undefinable newness in the smell that's so appealing.

From time to time, thoughts pop into my head. Thoughts about all kinds of things. It just happened now. I suddenly thought: "What about Fresh Tar flavour?" Fresh Tar? Fresh Tar?
You know, that lovely warm smell when the men (or women) in hi-vis jackets are patching up the road, or the men (and I include women here too) up on the roof are spreading hot gooey black tar on it.
I imagine it might be a bit like licorice, but more, well... tarry.
Any other ideas?

Hey up Steven and welcome!
I started vaping using stuff from eXhale at www.exhalecigarette.co.uk. I am in no way affiliated with them, they just seemed the cheapest and they got a few mentions on another forum (which I don't bother visiting now that I've found AAEC, btw!) To get started, their eJuice is quite cheap. 20ml (not the usual 10ml) for a tad over £5. It's blended in China, hence the lowish price. Some of the flavours are very good, some are not so good. This supplier is small (just a few employees) and very friendly and helpful.
I must say, I do agree with you over the "tobacco" flavours. They taste like the inside of an empty ciggy packet smells. A terrible disappointment. Luckily with vaping we can enjoy 100s of fruit flavours, food flavours, you name it. Can't do that with analogues, can we? I just ordered some stuff from LT eCigs, they sell eJuice in 30ml bottles for a very fair price. As others have already pointed out, TW are expensive in comparison.
Back to those tobacco flavours. Well, I included some RY4 in my latest order as everyone rabbits on'n'on about it. Whether it is anything like tobacco remains to be seen...
All the best Jono

Ahhh, thanks everyone for welcoming me. Really lovely.
I stopped my vaping at about 830 last night and I did sleep a bit better. That reminds me, someone mentioned something called Nicotine Dreams yesterday. I must Google it... sounds like a good film...
My mixing stuff should arrive soon, I plan to mix some low-nic or no-nic stuff for the evenings so I can still enjoy the therapy of vaping right up to bed-time.
In an idle moment (and I do get rather a lot of these) I wondered how much it would have cost me to buy some plain VG at supermarkets. Along with my other items, I paid £2.40 for 100ml at LT eCigs - I am not complaining about this as they will pick the bottle for me, wrap it and send it to me and all I will do is sit here, surf the net and let it arrive at my front door. So I think that's rather good of them.
But... what about those supermarkets? Well, as mentioned in lots of places at AAEC, it comes in 38ml bottles at supermarkets. - Asda Own Brand 84p (221p/100ml) - Tesco Dr Oetker 65p (171p/100ml) - Sainsburys Dr Oetker 81p (213p/100ml)
So, Einstein, the winner is... Tesco!
The wooden spoon goes to Asda for charging a stinkin fortune (relatively speaking - Einstein again!) for an own-brand product. Sainsburys don't get off lightly either. They get a smacked botty for charging nearly 25% more than Tesco for precisely the same item.
I know I could get it even cheaper at a chemists, but they can be the subject of another trivial post some time.
All the best of everything to you all Jono

Monomach: " severe shinyitis "
Ha ha ha! As it happens I added the word "shinyitis" at Urban Dictionary a few days ago. Incredibly, the word seems to have hardly made it very far from the vaping world.Shinyitis definition
