Also - when you press the "on" button on the side to vape, one of them hisses & you get the odd pop as the coil heats up (I guess) ... the other one is totally silent ... is that normal? I don't know if it's normal, CaptainChaos but one of mine does it sometimes. Should we worry about it?

I've found that particularly with micrcoils, its best to anneal the wire first to help it wrap nicely.. also useful to burn off any oils or residue from the manufacturing process. Agreed. Also essential if you go down the S/S mesh route. I can't imagine trying that on the average gas hob

Okay - I have heard that it is lucky if a seagull 'dumps' on you, but I have been banned from every seafront in the UK for standing there, arms raised to the sky, screaming "S*IT ON ME!! NOT THEM!! MEEEEEEEE!!!" And guess what. They didn't. CaptainChaos - Guess what? It was ME who grassed you up to the local Stasi in Weston-super-Mare So you could say I sh*t on you, though whether that's particularly lucky is debatable... (Got my name on a plank on my favouritest pier in Clevedon, BTW.)

Oops - forgot this statistic (from Wikipedia):
"Port Winston [the British Mulberry] saw heavy use for 8 months—despite being designed to last only 3 months. In the 10 months after D-Day, it was used to land over 2.5 million men, 500,000 vehicles, and 4 million tonnes of supplies providing much needed reinforcements in France."
Wow!

..personally i think this day should be a national holiday across Europe and the US/Can... so no one forgets the sacrifice: I agree 100%, andy01424. I did my own tour of northern Normandy last year and there are some brilliant museums and memorials. My personal favourites were the Musée du Débarquement at Arromanches, which has incredible models of the Mulbery harbours, and the Musée du Pegasus Bridge, where 3 British gliders landed in one field to secure the bridge from demolition. You simply can't visit them all, there are so many. I have a fondness for 'unsung heroes', and in Arromanches there's this memorial to the man who designed the floating roadway and 'kite' anchors which successfully secured the British Mulberry harbour: Major Allan Beckett, M.B.E.

I don't understand much of this thread. I am however due to do my 2-3 year desktop new build quite soon and will end up with Windows 8 most probably. When you do, djs, just ask if you need a bit of help/advice in fine-tuning it - I doubt if the fine folk here wouldn't be willing.

Incidentally, I crashed my big toy pride & joy the other day - first time for many years! Fortunately, it was at very low speed & the only damage was a small scrape in the ringed area on the photo below. Note: this was taken in France, last summer: hence the large red arrow on the screen, reminding me to ride on the right! Also, I set the satnav to talk to me in French - same reason What? damage to me? With 220+ kg of Yamaha on top of me? A badly sprained knee, *big* bruise on my arse, mud all up my back and a huge dent in my pride (They'll mend, so they don't matter) Why a scooter? I'm 63 and it's the easiest bike in the world to crash ride - just twist and fall off go, all the way to about 95 mph...

Unfortunately, this happens (nearly) every year. You can reduce the risk to life but you can never eradicate it.
ALL riders know the risk and accept it as the price to be paid for being permitted to partake in the finest motorsport event in the world - bar none.
I went (as a spectator!) when I was young and it remains one of the most memorable weeks of my life. Bikers are great people, in the main.
Oh, and sidecar passengers are just plain bonkers!

Me too - every time. When I lived near the Ivinghoe Beacon in Bedfordshire the Battle of Britain flight used to fly past - low - fairly often in summer. SIX Merlin engines

Incidentally, I quite like the 'tiles view' for some things. I keep shortcuts for most of my favourite apps there, for example. Using the Windows key shuffles the view between desktop and tiles, as any fule kno.

Hi andy01424, I agree about the SSD - I'll get one when I feel like re-installing Windows, for sure. Regarding navigating umpteen tiles, fortunately W8.1 provides an easy (if undocumented!) way of avoiding them by booting straight into desktop. Right-click anywhere on the open area of the taskbar, (it's worth looking at all the options here, if you like telling Windows what to do instead of vice versa ) click on properties > navigation > then check the box next to 'When I sign in or close all applications on a screen, go to the desktop instead of start'. Click OK, then reboot. Windows will take you right into Desktop. Job done.

I bought 3 clones (from Fasttech) and I've been using them for about 2 weeks. I agree with VapingBad - they are very easy to set up and work exceptionally well in all the combinations I've tried so far. Dual-wick (s/s mesh) and 'U' cotton wick with tiger coil are my favourites. One major problem is that the 'O' rings are all a fraction too loose, leading to weeping of juice and easy separation of the tank from its seals when taking the sleeve off. I've tried substituting the rings for larger diameter ones, but they stop me getting the tank over them. A thin sliver of PTFE tape under the ring has helped, but it's hit & miss and a bit of a lash-up. I'll have to take an original 'O' ring to my local plumbers' merchants and see what they've got. Despite these problems, I love the Kraken - well engineered and made, the air control is superb, the large deck makes building a two coil system dead easy, wicking with cotton wool is a piece of p*ss with the tank off and the engraving is very elegant. I think that once I sort out the 'O' ring issue they will be my favourites (so far!) by a long chalk. Whether I'll ever trust them enough to take them in my pocket remains to be seen, but they are *great* at home.
