Well, in the past three years before vaping, when I was smoking 50/day, I had lost 30kg, fairly steadily. Since starting vaping three months ago, I've been stuck at the same weight, varying slightly, but it's harder to shift. I suspect the fags were helping me to lose it, but quite what metabolism was going on, I don't know. Anyway, now I'm aware of the problem, I can tackle it properly.

I'm still loving it, but the juice consumption is a bit heavier than the Ego Mega carto, not just because I use it more - it's definitely going through more per puff/session. Ah well, if I'm going to stick with these, this will be a good time to notch down the nicotine strength anyway and reduce the cost hit.

Excellent - why did I waste my time with the smaller ones when things like this were available? It's not a full-blown tank, but at least I can see what I'm using and there's no leaks, which were a bit of a pita with the normal cartos - so easy to overfill those.

I like the clearomiser idea - fed up with guessing how much is left. I think I'll try a small tank next.

Well, after moving on to Ego batteries, trying 'normal' dual coil cartomisers and getting miffed with them blocking up, I ordered a Mega DCC. It arrived this morning and wow, what a difference Puffing away like Billy-Oh, compared to the smaller cartos it's excellent. Supposedly holds 5ml, but I suspect that's a bit of an exaggeration. It was only €3, so even if it only lasts a fortnight, that's ok.

I've had mixed success with only a couple of frozen ones so far. What's the typical life of a carto? On average, after a week of continuous use for me, it blocks up a bit and I freeze it. On one or two it's made a difference, another one, not so much and that one's now junk I assume. Still, they're cheap enough. Too small and fiddly to be bothered with re-packing, I assume? ps. I seem to find that heavy use of chocolate or apple leads to quicker blocking, while rum, blueberry, cherry, etc all block up nothing like as much. The blocked ones are very blotchy in appearance inside.

did you have anything else in your pocket like money or keys that could have shorted the battery... as batteries dont just overheat like that for no reason A poorly-made lithium battery (hell, even an alkaline battery) would and plenty have done. Given the way batteries are churned out by some not very careful makers these days, I'm not surprised at it occurring. I've seen things... you people wouldn't believe... Laptop batteries on fire, off the shoulder of O'Ryan...

I started vaping to quit smoking and my plan is to reduce gradually. That's the plan... So far it's working, though - I was puffing my way through 50 rollies of OH per day for the past couple of years and it was costing me an arm and leg every month (I jest, but eventually it might have, for real). In the first few weeks I spent nearly as much on vaping kit as I did on fags, but that's dropped away substantially now and I'm only laying out a tenner/week. If it keeps on like this, I'll be happy enough and my aim is to quit sometime in the next couple of years.

Excellent, thanks. Looks like I was sent a 900mAh one to start with and I'd thought that was the 650.

I recently upgraded my battery from a standard 510 to an Ego - what I thought was a 650mAh battery. When I ordered the next size up (900mAh) what came through the post was exactly the same size as the one I already had. Can anyone check their Ego battery size, please? Mine is 87mm x 13mm, and I was told the Mega XL was 13mm longer - now I'm wondering if I was actually supplied with a Mega XL battery in the first place.

Intrigued by the talk of flavourings from the supermarket shelf, I had a look today. I came away with a bottle of vanilla and one of almond. I made a mistake with the almond, as it contains vegetable oil, but it will go in cakes/custards/etc in the future. The vanilla works ok - I added just one or two drops to a carto and could taste it nicely; later I experimented with apple/vanilla, cherry/vanilla, menthol/vanilla and all turned out quite well. There were no peculiar off-flavours, but I don't want to assume this vanilla essence is safe without further digging around - on the label the ingredients are: water, PG, glycerine, flavouring, colour (caramel E150d). There are other flavours in the range, but my local supermarket (in a small town) doesn't stock much. Here's the maker's site www.goodalls.ie/our-range/flavours-natural-essences/

First day of no patch - even a half patch. Happened purely by accident and totally forgot to put one on this morning; by the time I realised, I was halfway down the road and thought, "B88ger it, I'm not going back for one". In truth, I didn't miss it, and would say I didn't vape any more than before.

The same grading system applies to many other chemical reagents, as I came across when I was making biodiesel (I'd known this from years ago, and forgotten it). During the testing phase I had need of some indicator chemicals, so hied off to a lab stockist and was stunned at the cost of lab-grade reagents. It turned out the need for dead - on accuracy wasn't really required, so I was able to buy less highly-graded chems for considerably less money. The actual processing chemicals involved in the making of biodiesel, sodium hydroxide and methanol, were available in bulk and were cheap industrial grades.
In the case of PG, food grade would be more than adequate and I suspect the ebay listing showing £18 for 0.5L is for lab or BP grade.

Well, that's nearly 9 days passed and not a fag in sight A couple of days ago an Ego battery arrived, plus a spare 510 atty and some more juice samples - hooboy, I love mixing flavours The chocolate is a bit like a sweaty sock, though. I've got enough hardware for now; later on I'll add some more as the fancy takes me - it's good not having to worry about batteries running out any more.

Well, this is the sixth day since I started vaping and not touched a fag since. I've had some odd cravings today (and some two days ago), but thankfully the vaper was just a hand's reach away It really, really works, and I suspect the reduction in patch strength has more to do with it than anything else (might also be simple cravings for fag action, as weirdly, the craving popped up as soon as I put a coffee cup down or finished a meal). Will be ordering a bigger battery and spare attys soon, along with more juices. The 510-alike has worked fine so far, but the batteries show signs of being not all that - not too surprised, to be honest.
