Newbie needs help please

Hi everybody, I've been invited here by Scylla, but need some help.

I've been thinking of trying e-cigs for ages, but not done anything about it until now, until I saw the thread on eBay Q&A last night and got really engrossed. But then got lost browsing for what to get and where from.

I am 58, been smoking for years and years and now it's 40+ a day of John Player Special. It's ok when we can get them cheap from abroad, but now I've run out the cost is astronomical.
My basic questions are - how do I start? What to buy? Where from?

I need it to taste as much like normal cigs as possible, I need not to have the cravings you do still when trying (horrible tasting) tablets, or chewing gum. Or patches. None of which work. I LOVE smoking, and don't want to give up. It's only the cost that is bad! (And the smell!)

When you have to give up a job because you can't get out to smoke for 4 hours, or when you can't visit abroad because it involves a flight of longer than a couple of hours (and that's bad enough) it's a sad state of affairs.

There are several really good options to go for to get you started. A lot depends on what would suite you & how much you are happy to initially lay out money wise

Lol, I'm still going to suggest a 901 kit plus a bottle of e-liquid from Vapor Station. Minimum outlay for an e-cig that works well :

How any e-cig tastes is due to the e-liquid you use - non will taste exactly like a real cig but Paradise Vapes has some really good tobacco e-liquids (juices) at good prices : -

Hi both of you and thanks for your responses. I had a better browse of the threads and read about the Riva. I think that is what I will go for. In particular, the post by buckowski advising another newbie at work, and what they actually ordered for them. I'll order it in the morning. I'll also let you know how I get on.

Chrissie, did you realise that VaporStation have not had starter kits in stock for months? I used to recommend them to anyone starting out as they were such a good deal, but pointless now

Hi and welcome Kath. Please make sure you order your juice at the same time as your Riva because you will need it to start - the Riva doesn't come with any juice and the cartridges are dry - I have mentioned this to the owner and hopefully he will be doing something about that, but in the meantime you will need to get juice as well to get going.

As Chrissie said, Paradisevape's tobacco juices are excellent, although they don't have the ashtray taste of smoking, they have the sweeter tobacco flavour - does that make sense.

What a shame Liland & Kath's threads aren't combined - feel it would be so VERY helpful to them both. It's SOOOO confusing when you start

Kath, Welcome I got myself in knots when I was trying to find info & start. IMHO if you follow either sets of advice here, you won't go far wrong - don't worry too much about which to follow

You are likely to be able to sell on here anything that doesn't suit your personal taste

I'm not one of the super-lucky ones that went 100% vaping, from day 1 - BUT - the e cig has still been a fab thing for me. I am a heavy long term smoker and I still smoke. The e cig means, for me, that I smoke half what I used to, which is brilliant.
I started with a 901 & still use it happily.
There are some that think (not on this forum ) that you're EITHER a smoker OR a vaper (e cig) - NOT SO! I find they combine well. I feel I'm doing half the damage I was before discovering them.

Kath, lolli is so right. You can use the e-cig in so many ways from it becoming a complete alternative to real cigs, cutting down or even just using it in places you can't smoke.

Thanks so much for all the advice, and yes, I should have posted on the other thread which had already started. It's just so confusing as to how to start, don't want some items arriving and then realising some vital bit of kit is missing!
I think I have decided to try the Riva. And go with the juice from Paradisevape. But another question arises - which strength? 50 cigs a day, John Player Special - 9mg nicotine.
