Well, one Yank is coming and he is already here. Blame my friend Chrissie, she's the one who invited me. lol.
My name is Jerry, the RM is the suffix of my Amateur Radio callsign and my nickname in some Ham Radio circles. Call me Jerry or RM, whichever you prefer.
I live in the northeastern United States, in the town of Cumberland, in the state of Rhode Island.
I have been vaping since September 2009 and have been smoke free, since October 29, 2009. I have been a member of ECF for a bit over a year, but that has been the only forum that I belonged to, until now.
I am a Joyetech e-cig user. I use a Joye eGo, a Joye 510 and a Joye 510 XL with a cartomizer. My favorite e-juice is Backwoods Brew, located in New York state. Unfortunately, at this time he only ships to the U.S. and Canada.
My hope is that we can use this thread, to post e-cigarette and legal information to keep ourselves informed as to what is happening on both sides of the pond, but not strictly for that only. Feel free to have fun.
That leads me to my first report.
This morning we found out that the U.S. District Court of Appeals upheld Judge Leon's ruling of last January, that the FDA cannot regulate e-cigarettes as a drug, but rather as a tobacco product. The ruling was a unanimous 3-0. The battle with the FDA is not over yet, but this is certainly good news for us in the States and hopefully will have a positive impact on how they are regulated in the UK and the rest of Europe.
A link to the full decision can be found on the ECF, in the "SE, NJoy vs FDA -- Discussion" thread.

Thanks for the wonderful news and for the potted personal history, Jerry (that's what I'll call you, my sister is Gerry). Now I've forgotten what I was going to say next... ??? Oh yes! I'm a bit of a night-owl so you're not unlikely to bump into me here during your evenings scylla

Goodnight Lilac and thanks again. Hello again Scylla, I'm a bit of a night owl too, but it's 2:45 your time, that is very late.
There is a 5 hour difference between here and London, so I will try to time my posts, when most of you are on.

Really interesting to read your story from over the pond Jerry, is vaping really 'big' in the US? I ask as our UK suppliers ecigs all come with US 2 pin plugs and we have to use a 3 pin adaptor. Apparently, as I was once told the US market is vast compared to the UK and that's the reason why, so have you seen lots of other vapers out and about? Also, do you have any bricks & mortar ecig shops? Or does everyone buy their supplies on-line? Forgive all the questions!

Hi Jerry and welcome; enjoy your stay with us. It IS good news about the FDA although we have a dilemma in that we don't want e-juice/e-cigs placed under the umbrellas of drugs or tobacco - we want a separate classification altogether. The e-cig is not a cessation device, it cures nothing and doesn't contain 'tobacco' in the damaging form of a regular cigarette or similar. Any perceived dangers of our products are already regulated by The Poisons Act and Trading Standards. The battle continues. Fox

Rhode Island is only 273 miles away from Maine - where the Maine Coon cat originated from

Wow !!! Lots of comments and questions, I feel very welcome here, thank you, everyone.
SCYLLA - Take care of that cold, they are annoying to say the least, but not as bad as the flu.
PERPETUA - Vaping is becoming big here, I have converted one person to vaping and am now trying to convert my oldest niece, who smokes. If you want to know how big it has become, just look at the membership of the ECF. It started out as a small UK e-cig forum and now has almost 50,000 members, mostly American. Maybe I should change my location to NEW England, so any lurkers here will think that I am also British. lol. Small brick and mortar stores are starting to sell cartomizers here. I prefer what I get online.
MAGICMA - Thank you very much for the warm welcome. I am quickly finding out that there are very nice people on this forum. Thanks for the invitation, Chrissie !!
JIMMYBAT - My great-great etc. grandfather, on my mother's side, was from Aberdeen, Scotland. He came to the "new world" with the British Army, around 1700 and decided to stay here. I am familiar with DIY Shack and Dawn Marie, but I have not ordered anything from her.....yet.
FOXY - I agree completely with you, at the present time, we don't have a choice. The FDA is insistent that e-cigs are a drug/delivery device and would love to ban them. Our best hope is that they are classified as a tobacco product. The FDA will be able to regulate them, but not ban them.
CHRISSIE my friend - 273 miles indeed, even I didn't know the exact distance !! lol. I have been to Maine, but I prefer it's next door neighbor, New Hampshire.

A bit of trivia. Emma Watson, of Harry Potter fame, is a student at Brown University, in Providence, Rhode Island. That is about 10 miles from me.
