Tips for newbies!

Hi all,

I thought I'd try to contribute a bit and came up with the idea of things I wish I'd been told before I started. So here goes.

In no particular order.

1. Do as much research as you can. Although it can be tempting to dive straight in and order a kit I'd advise taking the time to find out as much as you can first. Search through forums and supplier websites to see what is recommended and what is available.

2. When you eventually decide on a kit to buy make sure at the very least you have 2 batteries. There's nothing more annoying than having to wait for your battery to charge before you can vape.

3. Make sure you order juice at the same time as your kit. Most kits come with a small amount of juice but you will need some for when that runs out.

4. When ordering juice don't order too much of something if you don't know what it is like. 30ml's at a bargain price might look great but if you can't vape it you're out of luck. (You could always try to swap it with other forum members)

Also when ordering juice make sure you check what strength you are ordering. Too high or too low and you may find it un-vapable.

5. If you are going to try out different flavours make sure you have different atties and carts to try them in. Some flavours can be quite potent and hard to get rid of.

6. Keep a personal record of what you are spending, where you spend it, what flavours you like, etc. This will help when re-ordering stuff and also when it comes to figuring out how much you've saved. (If you haven't gone mad buying a ton of vaping equipment!)

7. Get involved in the forums. If you have questions search on the forums. If you can't find the answer, no question is too stupid, ask away. You will always get an answer, especially here!

8. Pay it forward. If someone helps you out in any way, return the favour by helping someone else out. We all have to start somewhere and it's great to give back.

9. Make sure you have the correct tools for the job. Many e cigs require certain things when going the DIY route and refilling cartridges etc. Some tools you may need: disposable gloves, (for handling nicotine juice) tweezers, syringes, empty bottles to mix or decant liquid in, labels or pens to mark the bottles, blue foam, droppers, PG and or VG. You get the idea.

I started off with a super mini and trying to fill the cartridge on it was a very messy, frustrating affair with no syringe.

10. It's also a good idea to store your equipment in a locked cupboard or well out of reach of any kids, pets, etc. Safety first people!

11. Store your juice in a cool/cold place. Heat can affect juice by making it thinner. Resulting in an unholy mess when trying to refill your carts/cartomisers etc.

12. Experiment! There are many different e cigs and bits of equipment to try. There are also a huge amount of juices in different strengths and flavours. You may feel you have found your perfect vape but unless you try new things you'll never know. I have recently tried Low Resistance atties for the first time and really like them compared to a standard 510. Especially with a drip tip.

13. Have a back up plan! If you have bought a starter kit it probably came with a couple of atties and batteries. These won't last forever, so make sure you have spares of everything.

14. Check out shops in your local area for places that sell disposable ecigs. These will give you an idea of what it is like to vape. Keep in mind that the disposables are not the pinnacle of vaping, there are tons of products out now that you can move up to. Treat disposables as a toe in the water.

15. Keep your e cig/accessories in perfect condition, clean and well maintained. Not only will this keep it performing well it also helps if you decide to trade or sell it.

I think that will do for now, I'll add more as I think of them so keep checking back on this thread. Most of these things I found out the hard way. I have already met some great people and have never felt such a positive vibe from anything like this before.

My main tip is that you may think you want an e-cig that looks like a real cig but you will soon get fed up of the short battery life.

Hard to add anything to what you two have covered,

the two that stand out the most are :
1) get over wanting an e-cig which looks like a real cig (either shape or colour). Once you accept that its not necessary then your choices for really good PV's is much much much wider.

2) dont buy liquid in more than 5-10ml at at time, your tastebuds will change and you will find yourself wanting something tastier.

The only things i would like to add is this...

Choose your e-cig to reflect your lifestyle. E.G: If your at home 24/7 then a collection of shorter life batteries and cheaper kits may work fine for you... but if your out for the day or even longer then something with a longer battery life will be much more convenient.

All atomisers are supplied with empty mouthpieces (carts) to protect them from damage. You do need to put in filler, the blue foam is recommended, and drip about 8-12 drops of ejuice on to the filler.

If you have an initial burning taste (very unpleasant) this is probably due to the 'primer' on the new atomiser. Drip a couple of drops of ejuice directly on to the atomiser (be careful not to flood it) and take in small draws of vape until the burning primer taste has gone. Repeat if necessary.

If you get a burning taste when using a 'seasoned' atomiser your cart may be too dry or may be extruding from the cart and catching the atomiser. Rejuice or push the filler back into the cart.

If your cart is too loose in the atomiser and keeps coming out, heat a pin and score ridges into the 'D' shape to help it fit better (a tip from Scylla).

The tip I'd offer to newbies is to get sampler packs with several small bottles of differing flavors, then 'drip' to try these out until you know which are your favorites.
The reason I suggest 'drippin' is because you only need a few drops, so if you don't care for a flavor you can switch to the next in your assortment. Note that nicotine levels affect flavors, especially for fruity juices.

Can I just add my two penneth worth My tip is no matter how bad a vaping day you're having (we all have those days where nothing seems to work right, taste right, vape right) don't give up, next day will be better

never leave your tool of choice/batteries on the dash of your car or in direct sunlight as the heat could make the batteries explode.
a tip for even seasoned vapours especially those using tanks/arry tanks/clearomisers keep them out of the sunlight as it can make your e-liquid go bad/stale

Do not buy loads of Cartridges on your first order. Just some e-liquids and few Cartridges (5 will do) so you can refill.

((((Anne))) it is a good deal from LF, but the Riva's I linked to when you where looking for your new starter kit, included as much or more than LF's "special kit" & worked out slightly cheaper with the discount codes. Plus at the time, VE had them on offer cheaper than LF. Added to that. LF often run out on their basic Riva kits that don't include a mains charger

That's OK (((Chrissie))), I wasn't blaming you, it was my choice. ♥ I just went for the cheapest there was at the time out of all of them, £21.99 if I remember right. I would have liked a Riva as it looked better than the 510. That's a bit naughty of LF, it doesn't say there's no wall charger. Tut.

I'm fed up with having to be a 'skinflint' now but there's no p/t jobs around. Not permanent ones anyway. I'm getting too old to keep chopping and changing jobs, I thought I was safe in my old job until retirement. *Bleeping* government. >
