Have just watched this on iPlayer, and while I'm not as outraged as some others on here, there were some stupid comments from the reporter (remember him from Granada). It just appeared to me as a 'filler' slot for 5mins and very casual reporting, just to highlight the entertainment value of people watching other people 'appearing' to smoke. Reminiscent of 'You've Been Framed', and watching their reactions.
As a serious discussion on eCigs it was completely useless, concentrating soley on the 'look-a-likes', which is obviously where the mass market is going to be, and BigT have already cottoned on to this.
I think we've an underground campaign to undertake, and that is, when we see someone on a 'look-a-like' we go up to them and point out what they're missing. I know this will not appeal to everyone, but I've done it on several occasions and never had a problem. They are usually so grateful that someone understands, and after explaining and showing then mine (if you'll pardon the pun) I give them a card, VE or LF. (This just brought a thought about cards for AAEC which would be even more useful).

Just watched it, surprisingly it didn't make me angry... well not very angry Yes, half of it was misguided rubbish but it started quite sensibly. The bit in the food court was bobbins, getting people to chuff vapour all over people eating was crass and an ex-smoker of 28 years trying out an e-cig with I assume 24mg of nic then complaining he got a nic hit. WTF were you expecting man!? He was told by the guy at the beginning they aren't for non-smokers and they contain nicotine. They are designed to replace smoking which means they have to have enough nic in to satisfy a smoker. Not exactly rocket science. I guess I've heard the same misguided rubbish so many times about e-cigs I don't bat an eyelid when I hear some slightly less misguided rubbish about e-cigs. The only part that got me really angry was the joy they "announced" that smoking in cars with children would be made illegal. For a start that gives e-cig users a real nightmare if they vape in the car with little ones, even though it's harmless and they aren't breaking the law. Secondly what business is it what people do in their own cars? Next we'll see the Gestapo kicking in smokers doors for smoking in the house when they have children. Might as well just arrest all parents really, we've probably all done something or have some habit we'd rather the little-uns didn't adopt. But I guess it's easier to let the state raise your children than have some responsibility and bring your kids up properly.

Got to agree with the guy's above that on a second viewing it wasn't quite bad as I remembered it was however a piece of shoddy journalism with some bias and very poorly researched so the complaint still went in Yesterday I was pleased to see an article included in the programme about an alternative to smoking that many smokers find more attractive than traditional NRT products. This soon turned to horror when I realised not only how biased the article was against these products but how poorly researched it was. Many times during the article it was stated that electronic cigarettes were not regulated, and whilst there is no compulsory regulatory body at present many e-cigarette vendors do belong to organisations such as ECITA and have to comply with their regulations and of course they do have to comply with The EU Directive 2001/95/EC(6) for general product safety. The presenter also made reference to people taking up electronic cigarettes in addition to smoking many do but they tend to find they smoke less. No medical opinions were sought and here I give you 2 examples of where your rivals have done just this in a discussion about these devices &http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8PFuM-tWYY0 . Nor did you seek opinions of people who have used these products for their view.Whilst I do agree with BMA that we cannot truly understand the effects of using these products until long term research is done (impossible given they are in their infancy) I do believe that they are infinitely less harmful to health than smoking and your article should have reflected this.

I watched it this afternoon and my first thought was, "why are these guys making such a big fuss about it". This is the One show, hardly cutting edge journalism Yes it was a bit stupid and in a word, daft, but they weren't trying to put any point forward, just make 5 mins of slightly interesting tv to someone slouched on the couch. They do this with everything. Ecigs are no different. I won't be complaining

I watched it!
t.b.h. it wasn't as bad as I was fearing. Not the greatest "segment" on e-cigs, and clearly a wasted opportunity for the BBC.
I had to laugh at the comment about people being "offended" by someone using an e-cig. What is there to be "offended" about? - it's not like people with white plastic glow sticks emitting vapour were dancing naked on the tables shouting obscenities and inciting religious hatred? ???
If they were so "offended" why didn't they call the police?

They were offended, because they thought people were smoking, put someone vaping a large mod and tank and then see what people think! Yes, they would think people were taking drugs, lol.
But it was silly, pointless tv, which is what the One Show always does. Or does well. Depending how you look at it.
While I don't really want to name a company, why didn't they try someone vaping a zebra, or something like that, it would have made a lot more sense.
