I think that using ad blockers is against ProBoards TOS Chrissie can you confirm this?

I have no control over which banner ads are displayed - unless I fork out about $180 a month to go ad free. We have only been getting Proboards In House ads for quite some time, as Proboards support told me that most advertisers didn't want their ads appearing on our forum. Is there any kind of discount or option to pay for longer periods of time? I'd be willing to chip in to go ad free if we could get enough people together to do so, if indeed you think it is worth it. The odd ad for something that none of us will buy isn't a massive problem, after all.

I just train my brain to blank them out, couldnt tell you what sort of banners are up there!! Proboards cant really tell what their thousands of members are up to via their personal pcs, they wouldnt waste their time chasing an individual up over using a browser add-on to block

Ad blockers, whatever.
........it's not solving the problem.
People are going to arrive on here, see an add for Apollo and click on it.
This is advertisers buying the internet. This is people paying Proboards so they can invade places to generate business.
Am I the only one who feels the arrival of Apollo is linked to the competition offered to us on this forum?
It's really, really unfortunate.

This is people paying Proboards so they can invade places to generate business. It's people paying Proboards so they can provide free web-hosting. The alternative is to pay for web-hosting ad free. Advertising is the way of the world.

Advertising is the way of the world. I have no problem with advertising. What I have a problem with is this particular company at this particular moment. I would prefer Nicolites. At least nobody is going to run a Nicolites competition and expect not to be ridiculed...... Shall I run a Nicolites competiton and see if they want to out-bid Apollo?

I've just unfollowed a vape shop on my instagram, I'm very laid back but I started getting really peeved off at endless pics of young ladies in their underwear !! being used to advertise - I mean!!! I do have to agree that the general populice whose thinking about taking up vaping, thinks "cig-a-like" and that really does annoy me. Off Topic, was driving through my local shopping area today and an old bloke, in flap cap walked past as I was waiting for lights to change and suddenly whpped a massive gleaming chrome mod from his pocket and took a toke! I almost peeped my horn to wave my PV gear at him, but decided: a) Loud horn beep, as he drew level, might give the old fella a heart attack b) I realised the 'pv' I was merrily hammering was an SD Keyring?.... so I felt inadequate

Am I the only one who feels the arrival of Apollo is linked to the competition offered to us on this forum? Possibly, that was my first thought . . . though I think that sooner or later we 'd have had a cigalike advertisment of some sort given to us - as it will generate more income for Proboards than their in-house ads. Using Ad Blockers is indeed against Proboards TC's . . . and we didn't ought to be discussing or promoting them.

I tend to smile at these adverts and think "you have absolutely no idea" But then that's only because I just white-listed the site... The problem is that new users stumbling across the ads might think this is the kind of thing us vapers would support. I suppose we could add another banner saying something like "See the adverts here - read the forums - make an informed choice" - have to be very careful that this kind of message wouldn't break TOC's Or we could migrate to a myBBS solution on privately hosted servers (which means that at least two people need to know what they are doing, at least two people having control of the server hosting account (always have redundancy for the person / bus interface scenario ) ). Alas, practically, that would mean a big old migration path and I doubt Proboards would make that easy. Perhaps this predominantly UK forum should take solace from the presence of the dollar currency and the smirk at the flawed geo-targeting. In fairness though, Apollo isn't all about cig-a-likes - they do, with wonderful discounting of overinflated prices, sell clearos and even re-badged VW devices.

I am beginning to warm to the whole idea. Look at the *** forum which is mostly USA Vapers. They get permanent Volcano and Apollo adverts. So - people buy Volcano and Apollo. BUT then something "interesting" happens. People discover that a forum is a community, and see that community as their friends and advisers.... ...which in turn leads to discussions about what's good, what's a fair price etc. ...and then Volcano and Apollo get absolutely blasted for the pricing structure. Simple but satisfying in a rather ironic way.

Must admit, this ad is beginning to annoy me. I don''t mind ads, normally blind to them... but previously they have rotated them, from holidays to banking etc. No problem with that, but this is on constantly, and makes it appear as a sponsor of the forum. Don't know the answer, but I imagine Chrissie is tearing her hair out. Any ideas from anyone, when we know transferring to another platform would lose all previous invaluable posts, and $180 per month for ad free is ridiculous.
