Hi folks, They have decided to try chemo. Saw the docs understudy today and have got another appointment to see the top man on Wednesday. Then it's another appointment to see the chemo nurses next Monday when they will give me a start date. It will be two lots of two sessions over six weeks and then another CT scan to see what, if anything, has happened. Hurry up and wait. Been here before. Phil

Hi, I bought one of these pound pipes just to play with. First impressions. Plastic, too brittle to do any heavy drilling. Almost the right size for a cigalike. If I drill the stem half a mm bigger the cigalike will slide in. It may need adjustment with a turn or two of electrical tape to make a nice sliding fit. Same with the mouthpiece. I'll play with it over the next few days and post pics of my results. Phil

Hi Everyone. Sorry for the late reply. I've spent a few days with my son and granddaughters. Thanks for all the good wishes, They do cheer me up. I've got an appointment with the cancer specialist Monday morning. I'll find out then what the options are. Keep your fingers crossed for me. Phil

Bad news, I've got C in both barrels. No wonder I've been short of breath for the last 8 months. An operation is out of the question because it's both lungs. Hopefully I will get an appointment for next Monday to see the cancer specialist to discuss what options are available. The doctor I saw today said their aim was to keep me as healthy and pain free with no side effects as they can for as long as they can. I'm not giving in, I'm going to fight this as long as I can. I went to our archery club tonight and took my anger out on the target. I shot better than ever but I was gasping for breath as we set up and took down the targets. 3 four foot straw target bosses with the stands, anchors etc on a trolly are not light but I was so angry I could have dragged that thing around Wales. Hi, Thanks everyone, I couldn't have done it without you. The money? For some reason I have kept all my empty juice bottles, 26 of them at £4 a time = £104 2 starter kits at £28 = £56 1 510 kit =£30 2 extra batteries at £7 =£14 TOTAL =£204 Add a bit in case I've forgotten anything and that brings it up to about £250. I used to spend £40 a week on tobacco so that's £2080 minus £250 = £1830 saved. Phil

QUOTE "for a really quick modification, (though hardly a build) the stem itself could be cut down a bit then just insert 650mah ego battery as it comes, hey presto instant e-pipe."
Hi, I did this with an old pipe that I had stashed away. I just drilled the stem out with a 16mm forstner drill and then built the battery up with a couple of turns of black electrical tape so that it was a tidy sliding fit. I had plenty of time on my hands so I went further. I drilled a hole in the back of the bowl below the stem and glued in a 3mm brass pipe and then bent and cut the pipe so that the end of it was just below the end of the drip tip. Now just by taking a drag and exhaling without removing the pipe from my mouth I can have "smoke" drifting up from the bowl of the pipe. The empty bowl didn't look right so I filled it with black , orange and red faceted beads stuck in place with superglue. A quick squirt of water makes the glue set and turns it a greyish colour. A quick glance gives the impression that the bowl is full of burning tobacco complete with smoke and ash. Phil

Hi guys and gals, Thanks for the good thoughts. Everyone at the hospital from the cleaners to the consultant and everyone in between were very friendly and helpful. On Thursday every time a cup of tea was put in front of me I was taken away for something, the biopsy, multiple X-rays, changing rooms etc. Between 9-30 am and 1-30 that night I had downed less than half a cup. At about 1-30 I was sitting up in bed (couldn't lay down because it hurt) and the night nurse saw me and came for a chat. I mentioned the lack of tea and before I could think there was a lovely hot cuppa in my hands. Not only that but she woke me just before she went off duty with another cup. She was very interested in my e-cig as both her and her husband smoked and between them it cost them over £3000 a year. I explained how it worked and where to get it (less than a mile from the hospital for the one I use) and she said that as soon as she finished the 200 that her sister had bought for her from Europe she would investigate some more. I pointed her to this forum and also gave her my phone number just in case she needed any help or advice. My first convert. Phil

Hi Sue, I feel a lot better now that the drain has been removed and I've been allowed home. I'm still dreading the result of the biopsy and I won't know until next Tuesday or the following Tues. After smoking 40 a day for nearly 50 years I'm expecting the worst. Phil

Hi, Went into hospital yesterday for a biopsy. I was due for the op at 11am but the CT scanner packed up so had to wait for an engineer to fix it. From 9-30 until 12-30 I was on my own in the day room. My nerves were all over the place so I did plenty of stealth vaping. At 12-30 my nurse (I was her only patient) came and told me that they were now ready. My e-cig was on the table in front of me and she said "That's a smart pen". Not wishing to lie to her I explained what it was and she said that she had only seen the cigalikes. I admitted that I had been using it on the quiet and she said "No problem, there's two other people on the ward using them". From then on I chain vaped, even when my lung collapsed and I had to have it drained . The doctor and the registrar who did the drain op said if that helped me relax I could carry on while they fitted the drain tube. It hurt like he££ but vaping like a steam train did take my mind off what they were doing. Phil

Hi siffy, I always buy 18mg menthol and dilute it 50/50 with PG. This gives me roughly twice as much at 9mg (half the price). To bring back the flavour I add about 10 drops per 30ml of Silver Spoon peppermint food flavouring (Sainsburys). As well as adding to the flavour it sort of mellows it and is much better than straight menthol. At about 80p for the peppermint it has got to be worth a try. Phil

Hi, Thanks for the birthday greetings but a far more important event will be happening at the end of the month. On the last day of July it will be one year since I had my last ciggy. At 63 yrs old that 1yr means a lot more to me than just another birthday. Phil
