Yes, that is sensible, just to be on the safe side...
Kath, when u had the burning pain, were you clammy/sweaty at the same time?

Hi Lilac,
No, not initially. It was early morning, I was driving my daughter to the bus stop to get the school bus. (We lived out in the sticks.) I commented that I had a funny feeling in my throat, and thought I was getting a cold/sore throat. When I got back to the house, this burning pain came on. As I said, I thought - uh oh, I have an ulcer again. (Had one a couple of years before that but cured.) I drank a pint of water. The burning got worse, right in the centre between my breasts. No other symptoms. I sat at the computer and looked up all I could find about heart attack, but nothing that said the symptoms I had.
I thought I would get ready for work, and went to shower. I went into the bedroom and Alex woke up and looked at me and asked if I was alright. I said, no not really, but I thought I would be. He told me to lay on the bed. As soon as I did that, the pain in the middle of my chest got hotter and hotter and hotter, and I started sweating profusely which is the point at which he went to phone. (As I said he had to come back in to ask the number as 911 wasn't working!). The pain got worse, the sweating got worse. I ended up naked on the bed in a pool of sweat. You could literally see it pouring out of my pores.
Then the ambulance arrived. They shoved an aspirin under my tongue which was still there when I got to hospital due to lack of saliva. The next thing I know, I sort of "jump" on the bed, which I later realised was the de-fib being applied. Then I was awake and the GP arrived (policy in Scotland to alert GP who comes and gives warfarin ASAP and morphine.)
Then they put me in the wheelchair and carried me out, at which point I threw up all over my carpet, due to the morphine. The trip to hospital was fine, the stay in hospital was fine. Needed abit of cream on the burns from the de-fib pads. Had an angiogram which was very interesting to watch and feel. No treatment, no stents, no bypass or anything.
Sorry if I said too much there....not sure what you need or want to know.
Kath

Although I haven't had a problem with vaping so far, I do suffer with asthma & noted that some people with allergies can be allergic to PG. Since reading that, I've been considering trying juices made with VG, but I need more vaping experience to work out whether I'm allergic to either.
People can become allergic to anything even if you have been fine with it in the past. So a mixture you have been using a while without problems could all of a sudden disagree with you.
Hanow, I hope your experience was a simple allergy & nothing more sinister. Maybe a GP checkup would be a good idea, you don't have to mention vaping, just explain what happened.
Take care hun.

Hi again everyone. Big hugs for your concern, comments and ideas. Ken, I am going to make an appointment to see the doc over a couple of other things, so will mention it then. Kath - was lovely to speak to you too. My 'burning pain' definitely came with inhaling my Riva. I felt as if I was sucking on a blow torch. I am having to vape a little at a time, as I suspect too much and I could really set it off again. If anyone has ever had broncitus and attempted though to smoke before you have recovered - searing pain! It was just like that. I just worried over the pressure feeling the following day, which lasted about 4-5 hours. Fine today. But I will get it checked out by the doc. As for the sweats - I am afraid I have those anyway (several years now) - and may be I do need to be sure when vaping to drink much more water. Dehydration may be adding to the problem. I did however see the irony in this - imagine if after 40 years of smoking with few problems (hardly every had chest infections) - I finally give up and then a month later have a blummin heart attack! But thanks again all of you lovely peeps. ((((((((Hugs for all)))))))))))

Hanow, forgive me, but i can't remember if you use them....were you using a LR attie at the time you got the burning pain? I'm fine with normal vaping (usually) but when i tried a LR attie, i got the feeling in my chest that i got using a passthrough & with high VG juices....
I'd go see the Doc as soon as you can and if heart probs are ruled out then take it from there...

Kath, thanks for that, i was just wondering when you said you didn't have 'classic' symptoms of a heart attack...
I work in an acute stroke unit, altho a lot of our patients have heart problems too and have had previous mi's....
but the reason i was asking is that i normally assess someone's condition on their appearance, as in, someone who's really in trouble will have a certain pallor, and be clammy to the touch, usually with facial sweating... whereas others will insist they have chest pain to get attention, if i called a Dr in for all of those, i'd get a flea in my ear, so have to know the difference.....prob Alex knew there was something not right just by looking at you...

Lilac - I don't have any LR atties. I only have the two that came with the Riva, and a standard one that I got from TW. That one I had probs getting going originally, but it has been working well for 5/6 days. I am now increasing water intake, especially duing the evening. I tend to avoid drinks in the evening so as not to spend the night dashing to the loo 2/3 times. But am sitting here now with a jug of lime juice. At least I can then eliminate dehydration as a cause should it happen again. All rather bizarre, but I will get it checked out. But thanks again everyone. I could hear Ken shouting at me from the Med - what a lovely chap he is. Off to do some sewing. Am making duvet covers and pillow cases (yes, a pillow!!) for the dog's bed!

Here I am, late as usual cos I've been researching an eBay gadget in preparation for a snipe - and now I missed the end of auction and am very late into the thread both at once My first - alarmist - reaction to your original post, Hanow, was that it could possibly be symptoms of an embolism or heart attack. I would have thought that a too-dry atty would have given you a pain in the throat before it hit your lungs, unless you have tissue damage in a bronchus. I'd be at the doctor's every day if I went each time I had palpitations and sweats and breathlessness and faintness all at once Another snippet - apparently women's heart attacks have different symptoms from men's. This link is not majorly informative but confirms that the "difference" is real: usgovinfo.about.com/cs/healthmedical/a/womensami.htmI'm so pleased that you will be going to the doc very soon Let's face it, we ex-heavy-smokers who are middle-aged and over are an accident waiting to happen scylla

I had a major pulmonary embolism as a young woman - terrific pain! Have two different heart probs...... had several heart ops, inc open heart, but only once really very severe pain. Most episodes I've experienced burning at very top of my chest, almost under my throat.......actually not too bad at all. Profuse cold sweating on upper lip only, breathlessness & def change of pallor. If in doubt, DO check it out.

I used to take 75mg Disprin per day but haven't for quite a while, but when I have a scare I take 4 of them, equals 300mg (just to save you doing sums).

Hanow ((((())))) hun, hopefully you'll get this sorted quickly.
I sometimes find I feel like I'm sucking on a blow torch but normally when I'm using the Riva without the collar and the attie is a bit dry. I also find the blue filler is worse for it and the filler itself tends to singe if not careful.
See what the Doc says hun xxx

O Hanow, I'm only just catching up as haven't been on the pute much the last couple of days. I do hope you're ok now and have made an appointment to see your GP to get yourself checked. * My younger brother died of a massive heart attack at 44, it would have been his 50th birthday on Sunday - I can't stress how important it is for anyone to go to their GP's to get checked if they have a concern over their health. *

As with all the others here Hanow, I wish you well and do please see your GP if you get those symptoms again.
I used to love the low resistence atomizers but have given up on them, a) because they shorten the battery life and b) they burn my throat and back of my nose. They also burned the bottom of several of my cartridges which meant I was vaping plastic - not nice at all and left me with a burning sensation in my chest and throat. I suffer from occasional bouts of bronchial asthma so need to be a bit careful although anything I puff on has to be better than my old 'rollies.'
If you do get a nasty burning taste and the atty is 'worn in,' check that the bottom of the cart hasn't melted.

I'm on my first LR 901 atty. It just feels like a normal atty except a bit fuller and more reliable in that I get a decent puff each time. As said earlier, I'm dripping very judiciously, am still nervous because I had terrible throat burns with my last standard 901 atty, it was bad from new and would not be run in. The LR atty might not be at full strength because my SD batteries are well used. That's OK for now scylla
