Hi guys Thought I'd do a 'proper' post as have been AWOL for various reasons - good & not-so-good, but Scyl will love the good bit (mostly ) First tho' Welcome, BIG welcome to anyone I haven't said it to yet Delighted to meet all of the new folk Oh, & Perfectionist doo keep posting; your 'take' on things may sometimes be different, but a variety of opinions & debate is extremely healthy & such a positive thing (luv agreeing to disagree & then having a hug - so .......enervating ) *think I mean enervating* ??? Ooo & I missed Foxy - Hi Foxy *waves* Well, predictably & boooringly not been too well; then finishing work that I'll actually get paid for - latest clients not about to go 'bust' on me I hope Unwell again so all a bit h-e-a-v-y BUT THEN (prepare to cry & smile)............ Went to my friends new house (actually it's an old house) on Sun to help unpack & get her sorted - she moved Fri but stayed with me as it was all a bit of a pickle!) Anyway we took some pots to her garden & kept hearing very faint noises - we were very busy - didn't think much of it - later on we took our tea outside & heard them again ??? Investigated the massively overgrown disintegrating shed-&-a-half - and - .............OMG there were 5 of the teeniest kittens you've ever seen hardly moving Didn't know what to do - they were in a bad way. Wondered where the mother was ??? Shot round to immediate neighbours (WHAT demented style introductions they were!) Learned that previous owners had kept their cat permanently outside & it had been run over on TUESDAY - Bear in mind the day was then SUNDAY - FIVE DAYS those kittens had been there Knowing there was no mum to find we rushed to take them inside & gave them drips of water & called the emergency vet. Took them there an hour later. One was already dead The vet said they wouldn't make it & she would put them all down One was hardly alive. We talked & begged & eventually resolved that she would put the dying one to sleep BUT that we would take the remaining three home. (armed with special food & syringes) Since Sunday nothing has got done! No house getting straight, no work done & believe me, precious little sleep!! ............INCREDIBLY, these little three are doing, as the vet said this morning "miraculously well" They're gonna make it & make wonderful hand reared pets. We are so delighted - just had to share this sad / happy story with you guys

Hi Lolli,
I'm one of the newbies, I guess you may have seen some of my posts.
Anyway - I am sure the vet told you, and just checking, that you have to massage their "bottom ends" after feeding? To make them pee and poo? I only say this because my sister had some kittens that the mother totally ignored, and she had to raise by hand. But didn't get any advice and didn't know to do this. If she had only asked me....... Her kittens unfortunately died as they were not getting rid of waste.
Good luck! Keep us posted on progress.

Hello Lolli, I've just recently discovered this wonderful board like Kath . . . . OMG what a bittersweet story that is. How the previous owners moved without taking their pet I can't even begin to imagine BUT thank goodness you and your caring friend found these little mites when you did. I'm sure they will have a much better life now and be much loved kitties . . . . look forward to seeing some piccies. x

Oh Lolli, what a bittersweet story.
Sounds like you got there in the nick of time for some of them.
Good luck with your hand rearing - and don't forget, we will want photos!

Hi Lolli, I'm another newbie.
How awful the poor kitties being left, but how wonderful you found them and have saved some of them, gave me a lump in my throat.

Congrats for the care and attention you have shown those kittens. It's hard work but worth it. Don't forget to look after yourself too.

Came back to say all "bottom ends" working fine so far, tho' one of them is a bit squitty today - that's Doris (tho she may be a he ) Doodle & Dot fine. Age thought to be 2 weeks ish. Only every 3 hours nightly feeds now Can't believe two already have potential homes - isn't it heart warming when GOOD news travels fast Still early days yet. I sooo hope they all make it. We now have a shift system in operation, but in spite of that, nothing else is getting done - lol They all say "thank you" for the well wishes

Never had any kittens myself as all of my cats have always been neutered. But I do know, especially from Sara @ Haworth cat rescue (she is well known on eBay FHG as well as in many cat groups/forums) just how time consuming hand rearing kittens can be. Brilliant diagram Scylla Another hug for you & your friend (((Lolli)))
